I have to say I didn't like Robotrek either. You could create different robots, but all of them look the same. I thought the bosses were way too hard, and that leveling up took way too much time.

I must agree with Robotrek sucking. At first I liked it, but the game mechanics just didn't make sense. You'd find really good weapons and combos that could demolish anything, but then there'd be one enemy who seemed immune to everything you had and could kill you in one hit, and I was like "What the--?!"

Yeah BR, long time no see. I'm here for writing the articles mostly, I've been a big fan of the site and wanted to contribute in some way and was hoping to get a nice line up of games I was really into writing about. Thankfully Kurt agreed, which I'm happy about. Blood Will Tell is probably first up, though since it's the easiest go get done out of everything I chose. The Quintet article will either be last or will slip in the middle somewhere not sure. Right now I'm doing a side project that goes in line with this. I'm grabbing magazine scans from the early 90's I'm doing and trying to find some from the games I'm going to cover, I've gotten 3 of the Quintet games already, Gaia and Terranigma might be the most difficult though. (Esp. Terra since it was a Euro/JPN only release) and I don't know if I have any magazines that cover the time Gaia was released or not. I've even grabbed a few for some games people here are either working on or have already done so I'll see if Kurt is interested in them. My scanning skills are not the best, and the scanner itself while good quality has issues. But will suffice for my own needs if he doesn't want to use my scans in the articles. I have about 150 done now from early issues of EGM, and will finish EGM in the next day or so. Then going to go through some Gamepro and Nintendo Power to try and find some that I'm missing . You guys should see how lame most of the Enix ads are, no wonder alot of the games never sold well here in the U.S. I've got 1 of 2 Berserk (along with a whole bunch of DC game ads that I thought were cool) and have to find the other one still. Only issue with those are they are 2 page ads, and my photshopping exp. is zero, so I hope those can be salvaged as they are still in raw scan format. I'm also listening to the Enix sndtks to refresh my memory, (Terranigma is on right now and is as awesome as I remember it) Anyway nice to see some familiar faces (names) around these parts, is the "Shinigami" here from VGM one in the same or someone who shares the same name?

The one and only Shinigami of course. The Gillian Seed avatar is a nice giveaway. Edit: I really need to pop into VGM more often, seems as though my appearances are few and far between, often leaving me loost at to what's going on there.

Hey uncle 555, I have a few superplay magazines with mentions of Terranigma and Illusion of Gaia/Time- however no adverts as far as I am aware. Maybe you would want some other printed mention of the games though?

Maybe you would want some other printed mention of the games though? Yeah when I get around to that point something like that would be nice to have, I still need to find the mention of Terra in NP or Gamepro. I'll probably be finishing up all my scans from EGM up to '94. (I didn't resubscribe until '98 or sp again) But like I said I have Gamepro and NP's to get through if I can't find what I was looking for. I'll let you know.

Well lesee, anyone here have any skills in photoshop?
I grabbed some scans for some games here on HG101 (Jet Grind Radio) and a few others that are 2 pagers and I don't have any skill in photoshop to be able to merge and clean up the scans.
My progress, is this. I've covered all EGM that I own up to '95 (got a nice haul of approx. 120 scans out of that, 40 others from other things I'm scanning, Neo Geo related stuff and other items)
I was going to start Nintendo Power (as well as issues of Fun Club News I own and some various fanzines published by game companies) but got derailed looking for some missing NP's that got lost or stolen.
After that I'll get through Gamepro, then start on writing everything out.
I've gotten scans for the ads for Berserk (DC), Actraiser (another 2 pager, it was advertised w/ Dragon Warrior 3), Soulblazer, Robotrek, and Spike McFang, that's all I can think of right now.
I got some other magazine mentions of Gargoyle's Quest and some nice stuff on Demon's Crest. (But no ads for them...yet) =/
I should wrap up on the scans (hopefully) by next the middle of next week, then get down to the nitty gritty and get some articles written out.
Sad thing is with Blood Will Tell (Dororo) it looks like Sega put $0 into the marketing campaign for this game, as I can find absolutely no magazine advertisements for it, (but found some for Amazing Island instead) and I swore there were some. No wonder the game got totally ignored by the public no one knew about it for the most part, I mean other than Gamepro doing a 2 page special on it, (and then forgetting to even review it in the magazine no less) it was almost totally shut out for any media coverage, with the exception of a few reviews in other magazines. A real shame that is.

That's quite a list to write about Uncle5555! Can't wait to read them when they're completed.
Quick question on the Berserk game: Is the PS2 game different from the DC game and if so, what are the differences? I can't seem to find any solid info on the PS2 game at all.

It's a whole new game, is what I know.
It is also apparently very good. I look forward to reading this as well, although I might just grab my own copy in order to grab pics.

Quick question on the Berserk game: Is the PS2 game different from the DC game and if so, what are the differences? I can't seem to find any solid info on the PS2 game at all. I'll answer your question in a sec. Current progress is this over 700 scans completed as of today. (Working on a sub project of DC ads and SNK memorabilia I own, which is complete now) Kurt, I have some Megaten related scans you might be interested in one for Persona 2 and the other for Nocturne (might need to scan a smaller version of that one, OPM is too big to fit in my scanner properly) I'll PM you the details when I get done and see what you're interested in. Ok Berserk PS2, it is 100% different than the DC game, it is totally different. Some differences are this. Spell casting added, subweapons are unlimited, however are time based meaning you have to wait for them to rebuild before you can use them again. It's follows the manga directly as opposed to the DC game which was a side story, (yet Canon as it was written by Miura) it follows Vol. 27 the "Millenium Falcon" story arc very closely with a few minor diviations. Gfx is a little more fluid, but not as sharp as the DC version. There are two versions available a regular and Branded Box (all black with the Brand on the cover) edition w/ a small Guts figure included. The music is not as good, Susumu Hirasawa only contributed the opening and ending songs (which rock, btw) all the rest was done in house by Yukes and is not as good, mostly ambient stuff. VA'ing was done by the JPN VA's for the anime so it's high quality. A lot of little secrets in the game it can take easily over 15+ hours to complete at 100%, or depending on how you play as few as 7 if you just run through. It contains RPG elements with each kill you can rack up kills (up to as many as you can get) however they get harder to get as you pass the 100+ kill mark, I managed around 200 a few times. This nets you points to use to power up your character in a number of different attributes, power, defense, and you can power up your spells as well (used by your allies, as Guts' has no magic abilities himself) And another reason you can't find anything on it, as Sammy JPN basically disavows any knowledge of the game anymore and has removed any reference to it's webpage (and the page itself) for the game that came out a mere 18 months ago. (This was in due to a very vocal fanbase trying to get the game localized into English that I was a major part in last year, but by years end, I gave it up as a lost cause) There are a few resources out there for the PS2 version, you just have to search a bit. Anything else you'd like to know?
