I'd say that the first one is the best. Everything just fits together so perfectly in a way that it doesn't in later seasons. Still, it's one of the few shows I actively watch. I didn't start until last spring, at which point I tore through all 5 seasons. So season 6 was the first that I watched while it aired. And, of course, the finale reminds me why I like watching shows once they're complete - you don't have to wait a year to see what happens after a huge cliffhanger.

I prefer Season 2 just for all the "Jesus Christ, that happened?" shit that goes down. The series is a complete loss from Season 3 on, though. That's not Dexter. That's writers trying too hard to be unpredictable.

Season 3 however is hardly even worth bringing up.If shows like Dexter had fillers, i'd consider it as such. It wasn't untill the show's latest season they finally started to make the show interesting again.

I keep buying books. The Communist Manifesto, a book called 'Tea' on the history and origins of tea, Fight Club novel, and The Atlus of Legendary Lands. I gave quite a few people books for xmas too.

Today I went to Barnes & Noble. My work gave me a $100 gift card to a store of my choice (off a list, so I didn't have full freedom of location). I decided to go with Barnes & Noble, which means I essentially got the following for free: Scott Pilgrim Vol. 4-6 by Brian Lee O'Malley (got the first three over a year ago and liked them; now I can finally finish the series) Mass Effect: Revelation, by Drew Karpyshyn (I like Mass Effect, so this should be interesting to check out; learning more about Captain Anderson's past should be cool) Into The Looking Glass, by John Ringo (never heard of this one, but it looked interesting) How To Avoid Being Killed In A War Zone, by Rosie Garthwaite (I like books like this; I got the first three Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbooks as a kid, and read them from front to back numerous times. This seems to be in a similar vein) Uno - 40th Anniversary Edition (Uno is always fun to have around) I really wanted to get Donkey Kong Jenga and Forbidden Island, but they didn't have them. I still have just under $20 on my gift card though, so I can probably get one/both of them on Barnes & Noble's website. I just ordered season 1 of Dexter on blu ray from Amazon. I used a $10 coupon that I got from preordering Skyward Sword; woo OMG OMG OMG. Are you new to the series? The first two years of Dexter are the absolute best in the entire history of television. Haha, no I've seen it all already I agree though, early Dexter is incredible. It hasn't been as good lately, but I'm still looking forward to Season 7. What did you guys think about Season 4? I think it's almost as good as, if not as good, as Season 1/2. John Lithgow is such a great actor.

Dexter is an interesting show in that I've seen such varied opinions on each season. I've personally only seen through the 4th myself, but people I've talked to in real life say that the last 2 seasons were a let down. Then I come on here and hear that it has both been in the toilet since season 2 and that the latest season is a return to form.
Though everyone seems to agree Season 3 wasn't that great.

Season 3 was completely forgettable (considering I had to look on Wiki to remember what it was about). But other than that, I really liked all the seasons, if not quite as much as the first. And I really liked the antagonists in the most recent season. The crazy killings were more ice-truck-killer-esque in nature.

I need to watch past season 3; I've been lazy and haven't gotten around to it.
Anyone here read the books? I liked Season 2 a lot better than the second book, although it sucks how it ended for my favorite secondary character in both cases.

If Season 3 was filler, Season 4 was where the show went off the deep end. What in the flying fuck were they trying to prove that year? That Dexter actually is an asshole, and we shouldn't have any kind of sympathy for him? Beyond that, how many goddamn serial killers are there in the Miami area? I honestly can't believe they haven't been reduced to martial law after all these years. You can get away with stuff like that in the Batman comics because: 1) It's a comic book 2) Batman's presence attracts crazy people Miami in "the real world" has neither of those traits, so WTF. Are the writers seriously that incapable of creating new recurring plotlines?

It seems like a pretty accurate depiction of Miami to me.
And, to be fair, the season least focused on a serial killer (though it still had one) was season 3, and we've come to a consensus that it wasn't as good. It might be nice to have something completely different, but each season is still unique, even if the overarching plot structure is the same - a serial killer is on the loose, Dexter tries to find and kill him before the police get to him. Most series always keep the same structure. And video games are possibly the worst offenders. But we put up with that.

I don't recall Dexter being an asshole in Season 4, and that was the first season since Season 1 to really focus on another serial killer. I noticed that when I was first watching the season, but I felt they did a really good job of it when all was said and done. The new serial killer they brought in felt even scarier for Dexter to be around than anything in previous seasons to me. And Dexter has always sort of felt like a comic book to me anyways, so I don't really mind that. It seems like a pretty accurate depiction of Miami to me. I don't hate Season 3 like some people do, but coming after Season 2 it just felt kind of uneventful. I think Season 4 did a good job of picking up the pace though.

My new hockey jersey just shipped. I am very pleased with this.
It cost me a hell of a lot ($260), but it COULD have cost me a hell of a lot more ($390).
