Fiction Trope Pet Peeves

You know, I just realized that the idea of the "Earth Defense Force" is largely a Japanese trope. The Men In Black movies are about as close to it as I can think of, but they're more "secret agents" than the more military organization the trope tends to revolve around. Sym-Bionic Titan's G3 unit is probably the only straight Western example I can think of, and they're a pretty clear homage to Japanese works.

Scratch that: Unit from Doctor Who is also pretty close.
