It's the exact opposite of the overrated games threads
This post my picks are
Gungrave/Gungrave Overdose: Severly overrated and commonly passed off as "Trash" Despite the fact that one has to throw the disk at the wall to encounter any "Glitches" gaming mags pin on this game (Wtf falling through walls?) It's a very fast paced arcade-style shooter.
And Chaos legion, wich i swear to god is the precurser if not a practice run to DMC3 and whenever i hear the name "Devil May Cry2" I Immediatly replace the words with "Chaos Legion"

Ohhhhhhh... WAY too many to count... but very few come immediately to mind. I must say that I haven't seen as much praise of Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures for the SNES on the Internet as I thought I would. Bar none, the best use of the IJ license, and a damn solid platformer that stays very true to the movies. They cut a few things (such as the truck chase scene in Raiders and the Young Indy intro in Crusade), but most of it is there... including shooting the sword guy with a single bullet. ;D Psychonauts definitely goes on here. I haven't heard much of it, but I was enticed by the fact that Richard Horvitz (Daggett from the Angry Beavers and Zim from... well, Invader Zim) was Razputin. Looking into the game, it had some VERY interesting characters, and of course, the article on HG101 pretty much accelerated my impulse to get it. Best thirty bucks I've spent this year. I... would say Phoenix Wright, but this game really seems to be receiving a lot of underground appeal. This year, definitely the best forty bucks I've ever spent! I haven't played an iota of it, but I'm saying Buriki One. Heh... I know, very presumptuous. But goddammit, I really wanna play Buriki One! Probably never will, unless SNK releases some Hyper Neo Geo compilation on the PS2, which is so extremely unlikely that I could cry about it. Seriously, I can't think of much else at the moment... wait, one more. I gotta mention Popful Mail. Why did I wait to beat it until about two months ago? What an excellent experience... quite a challenge too. I didn't use a single healing item until the final duel against the Overlord, where I'm pretty sure I used every single freaking healing item that I collected and won by the width of a blade of grass. THAT was just too awesome. Not to mention that the general screwiness of the game overall (mostly owing to that spaz Slick) made the dialogue very entertaining as well. I'm referring to the Sega CD version, BTW.

Ys Eternal. I don't hear anybody talk about it, anywhere (except here).
The two Tobal games (Tobal 2 in particular) are both pretty good, in Quest mode anyway (the standard fighting game isn't that special). I also love Ehrgeiz to death and wish my disc would work in my PS2 so I didn't have to install ePSXe every time I want to play it (thank god for ISO backups).

Wasn't there already a topic like this? Or was that under appreciated games?
Anyway, Chaos Legion truly is an underrated game. I wanted to buy it but was unsure if I would like it. I read dozens of reviews slamming the game as repetative button mashing. However, one reviewer said it was the best PS2 game he had ever played and that he loved it, that was enough for me to give it a chance. What I found was a challenging game that required twichy reflexes (not button mashing). This game is not easy or repetative, people who think it is only play it on easy mode which is not how the game was meant to be played. This game rules, even if Sieg looks like Gackt.
And ah, Popful Mail. What a great game. I wanted to slap Slick so many times for being a moron. And that Gaw was hilarious, "Aw, I'm dead! And hungry! And that's not a very good combination!"

Everytime I try to get into Chaos Legion (tried twice), I just feel cheaped out by it's mechanics, it just seems like I have to hit something 40+ times to kill it. I'm sure the game gets better but it just seems like if you mess up early on in the game it makes the middle really difficult.
Trap Runner (Trap Gunner NTSC?) I think is underrated it's such a unique title, it's like Deception lite VS (Deception being another underrated series).
Destrega, where to begin, everyone seems to rate it as repetative and depthless but its 3 chain magic system and 3 tier shield make for such unique and fast paced battles.

The only two I want to contribute here are....(since I'm writing articles on the others, no reason to mention them)
Ico (it is just an amazing experience, regardless of what the detractors say about it) I spent 45 mins, while I was on top of the walls just listening to the ambient sounds in the background and looking at the surrounding areas, I was blown away at how nice it looked. (Glad the dev's finally got some due with Shadow of the Colossus)
Low G Man (NES) one of my favorites from back then. It had some issues, but what other NES-era title let you jump 3 screens high, it had a few secrets, lotsa vehicles, and let you power up your weapons. Tragically overlooked and unloved after all these years.

I also love Ehrgeiz to death and wish my disc would work in my PS2 so I didn't have to install ePSXe every time I want to play it (thank god for ISO backups). I have to use that emulator to play Gradius Gaiden... dammit, Square, why didn'tcha release Tobal 2 over here? Lemme ask... despite the fact that it's all in Japanese, is the Quest Mode interface relatively simple? Ah, Ehrgeiz... haven't played that one in a while. Played the hell out of it... and I never could figure out that damn panel game. Yay Gaw! Not only is he so adorable, but his ultimate weapon, the Dragon Breath, owns ALL. Utilize it to obliterate every boss when you get it. Dude, you've hit upon one of my personal faves. It's quite the neat game that has some neat designs and a unique way of assaulting opponents (i.e., freezing them, jumping on them, and spearing the hell out of them). I've been playing this game for a DAMN long time... there's some video of me out there when I was about two or three years old, and I was futzing my way about the first stage. Ah, the days of my youth... like the scent of fresh lemon, you see. ;D And the final boss is just totally glorious. Heh... I must say that I haven't heard or seen much talk about Abadox ('cept on here). It's not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a kick-awesome shmup, but goddamn, did this game ever give me the willies as a young'un. It's rather damn challenging and the atmosphere is just way too cool for its own good. However, it does have a touch of the Gradius syndrome, and if you die on any of the later levels, it could be nigh impossible to beat it from there on in. It's still one of my favorite shmups ever, and... well, you DO exit out of the planet eater's anus in the last level.

Tobal 2's menu system isn't exactly intuitive, but there's a full English translation patch for it (I believe you can find it at romhacking.net).

I've started playing Anachronox (latest patch, build 46; you have to download three to get it fully patched), seems like a wacky and fun game

There was already a topic like this, but I won't mind helping the new thread.
Hydlide - Often misunderstood control scheme, and also people judge it by harsh, unfair standards. You gotta realize, the creators of Hydlide didn't make it and say "this is gonna be the Zelda killer!" They were, more than likely, just a pair of guys in a basement doing it for fun. As a Coffee-Break RPG, it's fine.
Outpost - SimCity in space, but often accused of being "too complicated" and having "too much micro-management." Personally I found this game to be more fun and playable than SimCity (which I feel is slightly overrated).
Dragon Warrior 1 - Most of the critics I've seen are obviously people who went into it thinking it would have the same kind of gameplay and "awesome storyline" as FF7. Nevermind that it was the first true Console RPG, or that the entire outlook on RPGs was completely different back then (the "storylines are everything" standard is a relatively modern idea, for example). I also hear people constantly saying "You need a walkthru to beat it," which is just plain false and the sign of wusspuppies who have no business even playing video games.
Final Fantasy 1 - See above.

One Word: RezI played it today to just relax and still to this day nothing comes close to the sheer originality this game has, simple to play, hard to master I think are the best words for it. It and Ico stand as icons of what gaming can be in the proper hands, cool thing is Mizuguchi is interested in a sequel someday, let's hope it happens.

They're on my list of games to snag, but I keep staving it off... 1, 2, 3, and now I can count to three. ;D

Ninja Emaki OutZone Final Fantasy Mystic Quest Outpost - SimCity in space, but often accused of being "too complicated" and having "too much micro-management." Personally I found this game to be more fun and playable than SimCity (which I feel is slightly overrated). As a kid I couldn't even figure out how to get resources out of those trucks (whatever it is you start with in the game). This was one of my very first computer games, though. I suddenly have an urge to go play through it

ExZues. The SHMUP that almost no one has ever heard of, and can only rarely be found in arcade.
