I also think it's kinda sily for phoenix to be in here, but he's one of the most wanted on the Capcom side. And i don't blame them. I'm looking foward to playing as him, but i doubt he'll be on of my best fighters. Lucas on the other hand wasn't so much a joke as much as a trick. They wanted to make it look like he was gonna replace Ness, to give fans a surprise i guess. And Lucas seems to be fairly stronger than Ness for whatever reason. (Besides, i think they just really wanted another playable Earthbound fighter.)

I'm just glad he doesn't summon that little scrotum Pearly...

Given the cross over, and over the top fun...style I suppose...of the game, I don't see why Phoenix doesn't fit in.
And I wouldn't call him a joke character (Tho I can see how that could fit), I'd call him more of a fanservice character.
I'd class Deadpool in that fashion too, because outside of comics fandom, I'm pretty nobody knows who he is, outside of "wasn't he some dude that was in one of the million of movies that Ryan Reynolds was in recently". in fact, i'd say Phoenix sis the video game "hey look fan! that guy!" in much the same fashion Deadpool is more comic fans.

Deadpool is a very popular Marvel hero. He's not Spiderman or the Fantastic Four but he's much more recent too.

Deadpool is a very popular Marvel hero. He's not Spiderman or the Fantastic Four but he's much more recent too. Deadpool is almost as ubiquitous as Wolverine, so if you read any comics you probably know about Deadpool. Outside of that, not so much...but as soon as there's a movie I'm sure he'll wear out his welcome twice as fast as he already is.

Rocket looks like he'd be awesome to play. Frank is radically different from Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, but I've never really understood his popularity. So, Rocket wins this round in my book.

*watches Rocket Video*
SOLD.
The Kano voice did it for me.
As far as Frank, it should have been Alex or Kaijin no Soki. Soki would have had to have his moves adjusted, though.

Wow, Rocket Racoon sounds like some world war 2 bad ass...cept he's a space animal. Awesome.
And Frank's win pose is awesome, reminds me of Code from Alpha 3 (IE: how he's sometimes run off screen being chased by Edi E)

Yeah, Rocket Raccoon is awesome. Seriously, I want one of those animated DVD movies about him, now. With that voice actor.

If I have no previous experience with fighters, would this be an acceptable starting point or will I just get demolished? How's the skill floor? I just really want to play as Doctor Doom and Hawkeye.

Probably depends on if you plan on playing online or not.

Running into casual players online in MvC who aren't combo crazy maniacs is a bit rare. If they allow Simple Mode online that might even the odds a bit but it helps if you understand the system before jumping online.
