I dunno, this is kind of the Japanese equivalent to Romero leaving id to form Ion Storm and then shitting out Daikatana.

I dislike most anime but I think you'll find that most of the games I play tend to be heavily influenced by anime aesthetic. You can look at the three games in my Backlog sig and see that.
I've never played an Idea Factory game that rose above anything but mediocre. Every single one is uninspired and derivative. And obviously I play a lot of these types of games.
I cannot see any sort of good coming out of this.

I think calling Idea Factory games "mediocre" is being way too generous. They have a reputation for being total garbage that panders to the lowest common denominator of sad otaku, even in their home turf.

lol
Inafune: "[Japanese developers] have to empty their glass and fill it up with what foreigners like... that's very difficult for Japanese people to do...because they have a lot of pride."
After saying this, Inafune snuggled up to a Hatsune Miku body pillow and cooed at his DS whilst playing Love Plus. AKB48 played in the background.
All in the name of research for his next gig at Idea Factory proudly making pandering otaku shit for obsessive shut-ins! That's what "foreigners" like right?! JAPANESE PRIDE!

It is pretty ironic that Inafune made so many waves by loudly trumpeting this (I think mistaken) idea that Japanese developers have to pander to the West. And now here he is getting involved with things like dating sims and Hyperdimension Neptunia, which are about as far from that as you can get.

The hilarious thing about his quote is that it suggests there are two groups of people in the world, Japanese people and "foreigners" and there is simply nothing that appeals to both. Kojima has said a similar thing before, where he felt the solution was to have a whole separate team making just games for "foreigners."
It's a totally insane way of thinking, but that's how people are brought up here. Never mind the fact that when the Japanese make a good game without pandering anime bullshit in it (such as Demon's Souls) everyone falls in love with it and it gets universal praise.
They are developing games for a niche of a niche, even within Japan. The majority of people in Japan are just as dumbstruck as all us "foreigners" by things like body pillows and Hatsune Miku and Idea Factory crap. The Japanese gaming industry is faltering because they largely refuse to make games that appeal to anyone regardless of culture... instead they are trying and failing to make "western" games, and are releasing crap that appeals to "Japanese" (otaku) tastes.
Monster Hunter failed in the West because Capcom just released it expecting it to become a sensation without doing any work. It's the pride Inafune was talking about.
So now they are panicking and they are afraid to take risks, and that's why MML3 happened (or didn't). It's a combination of pride and fear. Companies can release shit like Neptunia, developed on the cheap, and get guaranteed sales from the niche. Or they could take a risk and maybe have a runaway success internationally. But there is a chance they could fail and besides the fact that development costs are rising every year, Japanese people culturally are scared to death of failure and wounded pride.

Man, first Capcom (on Cross Edge), then Sega (on the original Hyperdimension Neptunia) and now him!
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Also, speaking of Hyperdimension Neptunia, it just angers me how they didn't include Joe Musashi on Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, but included him on this. Apparently it's okay to have him on a moe-fied SRPG rather than have him on a game about, you know, FAMOUS SEGA CHARACTERS. What the fuck, Sega?!
FAKE EDIT: And apparently the sequel will also have NPCs representing... Cave... and Falcom.
Once again: Oh how the mighty have fallen.

I'm going to be disappointed if Joestar doesn't do a picture about this thread.

Never played an Idea Factory game, but I've heard much about their supposed shittiness. Still though, I have to say that that premise behind the game sounds pretty awesome.
About Inafune, I have to wonder why he's been up to all of this stuff since leaving Capcom. If anything, I would have expected him to do something like join Grasshopper Manufacture, or form his own company focused on Western-like games.

I don't get it. What is he regurgitating there and why does the world wear a wig or has hair or something? Is it just supposed to be clichéd anime hairdo?

Yeah, he's supposed to be vomiting up an idea factory male character.

Idea Factory are pretty terrible, but eh, whatever Inafune has to do to get by. I almost think he's better off with them than Capcom as of late.
