Similarly, I propose a third month-long poll regarding the ability to post clips from the Star Wars prequels on this forum.

Hey I just wanted to say that this was an amazing idea. I've found so many incredible video game tracks I'd completely forgotten about, or didn't even know about, just by looking at other peoples' top 100 lists!
Thanks for creating this and for the opportunity to vote, it was an awesome experience! Looking forward to seeing the final list!

I was wondering if you were going to provide a downloadable zip file or something of all the MP3's that rank. If you do, would you need help compiling MP3s? I'm sure I can provide some on the final list, and others would also be able to help.

There were only like two votes after the deadline and I counted them. Why not, I guess? I was wondering if you were going to provide a downloadable zip file or something of all the MP3's that rank. If you do, would you need help compiling MP3s? I'm sure I can provide some on the final list, and others would also be able to help. Torrent, most likely. The zip file would be far too big. I've got a huge library of music on my computer so I can dig up most of it, and whatever else I don't, I can PROBABLY find or record myself. There are a couple of ones I have no idea on...if anyone has a good repository for Touhou music (OSTs only needed) I'd appreciate it. Anyway, I've compiled most of the entries, but I'd like a few more days to error check over to make sure that I've properly classified all of the stuff I'm not sure on, like the assorted Pokemon entries.

Well, I mostly ended up voting for the usual suspects and crammed about 75 songs in by the deadline, but I did manage to include a few hidden gems, which I would have Top 5'd if I hadn't procrastinated and rushed to beat the clock.
What I'm trying to say is Treasure Master on the NES has some rad tunes.

The Umineko music may be a bit hard for you to find (unless you somehwo already have it downloaded).
I can help you get the songs.

I found a torrent of several albums of them a few weeks ago so I THINK I'm good for them. Current total, it looks like Chrono Chross: Time's Scar and Mega Man 2: Dr. Wily as tied for the top spot at 56 points each, vastly overpowered its closest runner-up, Castlevania II: Bloody Tears at 44 points.

As an afterthought, I would have voted for the Road Avenger theme if any MP3 of it existed.
No one's EVER found a raw recording of that song.

I must admit I'm a bit disappointed about the poll in general. I was expecting more western games making a breakthrough in the top. After a quick-look at all of the individual lists, I assume that around 80% of the suggestions are in fact from japanese games. In principle, that's not bad at all - hey, this is japanese-centric board and they all like playing games from the land of the rising sun. But my logic was like this when the poll was first announced at the beginning of september: we already have a great repository of japanese vgm, namely the 2ch list and the compilation of youtube videos based on it; it would be nice to see in turn which western games have the greatest soundtrack... Well maybe next time Still, was great fun to compile my list and I found other great songs, so all is well.

Well, the Japanese list was all encompassing, and my main goal was to have something parallel to that, but with Western tastes.
While Japanese music is still in a majority on this list, there's a much larger percentage of Western music too. Most VGM fans are simply more familiar with Japanese music in general, and simply haven't played many C64/Amiga/mid-90s PC stuff, where the bulk of decent Western VGM comes from.

I honestly meant to add the main theme from Crusader: No Remorse to my list, but kept putting it off until it was too late.

Alright, here's where this is at:
If the minimum threshold is 4 points, then the total # is 593 If the minimum threshold is 3 points, then the total # is 1010
I haven't decided how to handle this yet. It's either :
(A) Go with 4 pts, pick out 7 more 3 point songs to round up to 600 (B) Go with 3 pts, delete 10 songs to round down to 1000 (C) Hold a second poll of the 3 point ones to fill the list out to 700, matching the Japanese list. or: (D) Cull the 3 point lists of the songs that only got single votes and see where that ends up.
Would anybody be up for doing a second poll where I just post all of the 3 pt links, give a week or so, and people can pick out like their three favorites or something?

Hmm, I don't think a followup poll for the 3-pointers would work very well. After all, that's more than 400 songs to pick from, and many of the original voters don't frequent the forums.
On the other hand, just picking out some would seem a bit unfair.
Does it absolutely have to be a round number? True, "Top 593" doesn't ring as nicely as "Top 600," but I don't think anyone would be offended if the 1010 were advertised as "a thousand".

I'd also lean more towards the 1010 amount. I don't think anyone really went into this expecting their favorite songs to come out on top. It was just an interesting way to share everyone's musical preferences.

Oops...I made a math mistake. It would actually be 1075 if all 3 pt votes were included.
