I'd be half tempted to nominate Street Smart. Sure, it looked decent, but the whole "Your character moves and/or spins forward halfway across the screen to throw a simple punch or kick" Makes it a bit of a blown concept. That sort of annoyed me too. But I admittedly kind of like Street Smart. Not the best fighting game I've played, but compared to games like Shaq Fu, it's far more interesting to me. Plus, I'm kind of a sucker for SNK's older games. Also I recall Killing Zone for the Playstation to a degree. That game was just bad. I liked how the monsters' appearances would change overtime in one game mode, though, but when I played it, it was a terrible experience. Controlled like crap, as I recall. But the music was interesting.

I actually own Justice League: Task Force. That was back when my parents were responsible for most of the gaming purchases. I did not like it even for its time. :I

Body Blows on the Amiga COULD be mentioned but I think it is more a dated SF2 clone than actual kusoge. Ultimate Body Blows (which I own boxed for the PC) I actually quite enjoyed back in the day, even if I could never get the music to play on any of my PCs (tho a cousin of mine had a PC which could! )

Dong Dong Never Die doesn't belong on this list. That game looks AWESOME. Agreed. The main awful thing about it is how much it crashes.

Nobody has mentioned Battle Monsters yet, so I might as well: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwfo0oFmEX4I really love the way it looks and it plays fun enough so it probably only counts as a kusoge for srs fighting game fans. I'd rather play it than Virtua Fighter, which is like drinking salt water to me.

Super Fighter and Sango Fighter from Taiwan have a cult following for some reason, but they're both barely playable as well. They do? By my recollection, Super Fighter got some attention on the BBS scene because it was a blatant ripoff of SF2 (this was in 1993. IIRC, its main competition on PC was an even crappier SF2 "port" that had been illegally produced). We passed it around to friends because of this, but everyone I knew recognized it as a shitty game. Never heard any mention of it again until Death Adder began redistributing it as abandonware. I can only assume that its classic status has been exaggerated, at least with regard to its history. Sango Fighter was slightly better, although I'm not aware of too much attention outside the abandonware scene. Certainly, it failed to catch on upon its American distribution as shareware (unlike OMF 2097, which was wiping the floor with the competition).

I have never seen Battle Monsters before...now I desperately want it. Look at that huge vertical scrolling, multitiered/platformed level design and what looked like a Ring Out (in a 2d Fighter no less) plus it's loaded with Silver Screen horror monsters and silly spectres...WHAT WORLD DO WE LIVE IN WHERE THIS IS NOT A THING THAT IS POPULAR. Geez it even has great music.

Here are some other kusoge fighting for the list (which I added to the first post): While Expect No Mercy looks terrible, Xenophage looks pretty enjoyable and funny in its own way. MEAT! Perfect! Looooooooool! Best finishing move message ever. And unrelated to the thread here is an old fighting I found for PC which for a cartoon-style parody fighting looks awesome: Seems like nobody has mentioned two MS-DOS FTGs made by indie company 47-TEK, titled "Sento" and "Creep Clash". Compared to these, most of the others are masterpieces. ;D Here's intro for Sento. I couldn't even watch it till the end, since it's such an abomination and, as I remember, the gameplay is like ten times worse, with only one attack button and unresponsive controls: Creep Clash @ Home of the Underdogs(There was a video of it on youtube, but I couldn't find it.) Thanks to these 2, I can very much appreciate many games that most players consider bad. No gameplay video? Man, this sucks! Now you'll make me download this game in order to see how really bad it is.

So this is Catfight, the all-girl fighting game made by the guys who brought you Island Peril. This game doesn't have the decency to feature a character who shoots fire out of her nipples. Also, it runs in Windows 3.1. A fighting game. Before DirectX. Yeah.

With a bit of a delay, I add myself to the list of people protesting the inclusion of One Must Fall 2097 in the list, especailly with the OP admitting he hasn't played it. Its main problem is having no scrolling, which makes the battles feel cramped, but otherwise it is surprising playable and the "career" mode very fun, especially when you have the dilemma of keeping your powered-up mech or trade it with another one.
I agree that Shaq Fu gets excessive flak - if it was just a fantasy fighting game without Shaq (and judging how he sticks out from the rest of the cast, it probably was so at the beginning of development) no one would notice.
Time Slaughter is a kusoge but in a "good" way. It's intentionally trashy (the authors were huge fans of Troma movies) and I recommend trying it and looking past the ugly graphics and animation. The engine behind is really solid - in the mid '90s, two non-professional programmers managed to create a PC fighting game with multiparallax, 3d floor, blood, fatalities, several levels of difficulty, a lot of speech... the violence is extreme but cheesy and it's fun t see al the ending sequences. Bloodlust Software's site is still up and the game's been freeware for years.
I remember some hype for Xenophage in 1995 (there was even a rumor of a secret character that was unlocked if Doom was installed on the PC), due to featuring large sprites and Neo-Geo style zoming, and some character design are really original, but it turned out pretty disappointing. Well, no hype lack the one for Rise of the Robots back in '94... and conversions to several platform had to be tolerated through a good chunk of '95.
I'll also never understand the worship some people have put on Super Fighter.

As a DBZ fan I'm really curious how you can not have Ultimate Battle 22. Never played the GT one, but it cannot be half as bad as UB22. You wanna talk about games that ruined your day as a child...
