Just got the news elsewhere. I felt they'd came out on GOG sooner or later but, free to boot? Really made my day.

Series now complete at GOG!
Well, okay, not complete. No Ultima Online (that wouldn't really fit GOG's lineup), no Akalabeth (which is really too bad) and no Mt. Drash (which is the greatest tragedy of our times). Still, I think it's great to see the series all together again, even IX.

Created by Keith Zabalaoui, a friend of Garriott's who helped to program Ultima II, Mount Drash was released by Sierra On-Line with no permission or involvement from Richard Garriott. Origin historian Pix got a chance to ask Richard Garriott last year about Escape from Mount Drash, and has confirmed that not only was Garriott fully aware of the game, but he allowed the use of the Ultima name to help out his friend Zabalaoui, because Sierra would otherwise have not published the game. This post at The Digital Antiquarian goes into more detail about it with help from other sources and takes the time out to debunk the legend as well.

A bit slow, but the article has been edited to take that fact into account now.

www.spoonyexperiment.com has a new series of interviews with Richard Garriott. Especially the second one, where he walks him through all the old documents at the Portalarium office, is pretty rad.

I LOVE the skit of Garriot talking to "Corporate Commander".

Another cool Matt Chat episode, interview with Chuckles (high school & college friend of Richard Garriott IRL, designed some of the early Origin games, although only tangential work on the Ultimas): www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0nxBhizAfg

I noticed there was a mix-up between the NES and SMS covers for Ultima IV. Are you guys planning to add Shroud of the Avatar to the article? I saw it's on early access on Steam.

Probably not while it is in early access - the risk of anything we post being outdated right after is too big. Also, our policy has shifted a bit in recent times, so we're a bit more likely to give "spiritual successors" standalone articles now. But it probably depends on the quality/significance of the game in question.

From what I've seen, it sure seems like its going to be a true successor to the series. Let's hope it turns out great. Lately I've been getting into Western RPG's and I'd really like to see more articles about some classic series here. Got any plans?
