Thank you very much Lamparita! Those are fantastic. I'm pleased to see Rusty looks exactly the same as its PC98 release, which saves me having to do comparison screens. I can also see how Totsugeki! is almost a reskinned Rusty. I think I prefer Rusty though because the music is better, but I do think this is worth covering. When I'll have the time I'm not sure, but again, thanks to Apachacha for bringing this up, CRV for background info, and Lamparita for uploading. We're like some kind of archaeological A-Team.

If you're using Dos you might apreciate the save state function I found on a modified version of Dosbox, I can link you if you're interested (tried with several dos games, Korean ones to be exact, and it still worked perfectly....you just have to remember not to load state when the screen gets dark/after a boss fights, because Dosbox retains the colour and music, which can make some fights a bit difficult) . And I posted all I remember about where the necessary items to continue in Totsugeki are located. Just one more thing, the slot machine before the boss fight apparently can't be influenced any by the player. You just have to hit the switch and then if your time gets low waiting to hit a three on anything (for the door to open) go back a room, on the ledge there's a time extension item that respawns infinitely. You're welcome , i wish to upload some of my korean/chinese games, but I do not know where in the forum I can do it. There's a couple of games by Mirinae I'm looking for, particularly Izmir, due to my one korean resource apparently splitting the zip file in a weird way that seemed to screw everything up, so definitely have something to ask you about And....is that a dantini ?

Gave a try to the DOS version of Rusty, keyboard controls are a little stiff and there's a lot of dithering but, honestly, those are only 16 colors? They used them really well. Other than that, the game's really fine. Regarding the "Castlevania ripoff" aspect of Rusty (if all the ripoffs were so good, I'd sign for it!), I found this article from Castlevania Realm: www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/multi/Essays/essay-dougr.htmWhile a couple of comparisons seem forced, and the author forgets how Rusty also takes some gameplay cues from the original MSX Vampire Killer, other similarities are interesting, especially considering Rondo of Blood was released a few months after Rusty. They may be all just coincidences, but he also notices that a familiar in Symphony of the Night works just like one in Rusty. Given how C-Lab seems quite obscure as a company, the theory of some contacts between them and Konami may not be so far-fetched.

Tried also the PC98 version. While graphics and gameplay are identical, the DOS version has an important difference: the sound. It is much inferior. With the midi synth used the music is merely nice, the sound effects are muffled and there's even no scream upon death.

Hmm, aside from what's listed at Mobygames, it seems Mr. Niida was also a programmer for Grandread. He seems to have been in charge of this company: www.gamejob.jp/recruit/employ/jb03.htm?id=blackjack07The remains of its homepage in the wayback machine lists lots of imode conversions and typically Japanese stuff for PS2 no one in the West gives a damn about; idol mahjong, horse betting sims and the like. You can follow the page history until 2010, but now it doesn't exist, anymore. The character designer is Woody-Rinn, who's apparently kinda famous for developing a graphics format many old Japanese computer programs used. ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woody-RinnNo hints at a Konami connection, though.

Is it possible someone saw early screenshots? Or a demo at a trade event?

Not all games support it, but when they do, it's quite a lot better than the usual Soundblaster.
