I think the assless clothing is really the main affront. I can handle crazy ass hair styles. This is Japan we're dealing with, after all. But when you start parading everyone around with their ass cheeks on display...that's a bit much.
Bought the game off eBay UK around Christmas. Only loaded it up yesterday. On the back of the box it had the Dutch flag, making me think: the seller sold me the Euro language version! I've been jipped!
Loaded it to discover it is in fact in English. And as usual with Euro Square titles, it's 50Hz with thick borders at the top and bottom, and runs 17.5% slower than in America. Think about that, fellow players: in Europe we had to endure not only assless chaps, but squat assless chaps that move in slow motion. It's like a perverse retelling of Willow... Or not. But I digress. Do I feel like spending $10 to rebuy it off the US PSN for 60Hz full speed glory? No, not really. PAL 50Hz will suffice.
I hope someone mentions in the podcast though, how badly Europe was screwed over with being PAL, at least until the Dreamcast came out and gave the choice of 60Hz.
Initial 60 second impressions: it's very gothic and reminds me slightly of Dark Souls, which I'm currently playing.

Sketcz - I'm unfortunately in the same boat as you - Pal is not my pal Anyways- hoping to be able to get around to playing this at soem stage this month- I've a lot on this coming week but have some travelling to do so I'll keep my psp handy and post every now and then. Expect desperate puns on the protagonists name
Well, I'm off to a weird start, seeing as how the emulator ran it at hyperspeed on the current video driver. All I can say about this game so far...... I have a feeling I'll develop a fear of boxes before the month is over.
Man I can already tell I won't be getting through this. Between the camera and the jumping and the boring as hell first (real) boss, there's not much to recommend this game other than the impressive graphics.
Also, you can skip the intro, but not the cinema leading up to the Minotaur, even if you continue? That makes no sense.
Well, I got the game on PSN because I didn't want to wait till the weekend, and this way I can switch between PSP and PS3. I got my ass handed to me by the second boss (my first death) and quit for the night. I used a weaker weapon (the bowgun)because I didn't want to fuck up the work I'd done grinding against the "human" dummy and beast enemies with my Fandango sword (he's "Evil" type, you see, on the opposite end of the spectrum and I think it would reduce those). So yeah. I think the problem was that I built up too much risk and got slaughtered that way. I'm still trying to figure out what goes up and what goes down when you try to powerlevel a weapon or just use it - the manual doesn't really explain it well.
Anyway, make sure you use those grimoire items so you can use the spells. And although they show the chest in the background multiple times in the cinema after you beat the minotaur, make sure you grab it since it's a shield. Not sure about you guys but the chests blend into the background something awful.
Fucking minotaur has more reach than the bow gun, what the dicks. Forgot how randomly the controls change as well, press X to open this, PRESS X TO CANCEL THIS, move the right stick to pause reality and look around. ASAWDFA.
Re: the forge- is this going to be one of those games where you have to grind for random ingredients and then hope that you figure out an obscure combination of items to make a decent weapon?
Also another tip. As you chain attacks your risk increases by 1 but after a certain point it starts going up exponentially so try to end combos before this point.
Also if you have good timing you can beat any boss by chaining huge chains together. Even if you are doing only 1 HP damage each chain adds 1 to the damage total so if you get in 40 hits it starts to add up. It's a stupid and boring way to play and your risk will go through the roof but if you are having trouble then any boss can be beaten this way. My advice is just forge some good weapons so you can play it properly.
Also fuck Square Enix and their crappy 50 Hz ports. I don't mind 50 Hz ports if they actually speed the game up. It wasn't until Kingdom Hearts 2 in 2006(!) that square finally gave us europeans a 60 Hz option.
