I'm looking forward to this challenge. I can totally empathize with how Kurt feels about the game, and I'm hoping that maybe this time I'll "get" it.
BTW, I'd like to petition to put "Raiders of the Lost Ark" for 2600 on the ballot for next month. It will be funny.

Now that's an idea. I used to play the hell out of that game as a kid, but never got anywhere with it. People love to bitch about how games hold your hand too much. Raiders of the Lost Ark put you in a windowless van with a sweaty fat guy and called it a day.

Raiders of the Lost Ark put you in a windowless van with a sweaty fat guy and called it a day. I beat it once because my cousin showed me how to beat it. And she only knew because a friend of hers told her WTF was going on (and they probably only learned by reading a guide). Even with help that game is a mess; not just from how abstract it is, but from how little it has to do with the movie (anyone remember a giant spider that looks like a green Chick Fil A waffle fry? Indy rappelling from mesa to mesa? Walls that teleport you into jail when you touch them? Actually it sounds kind of cool...). Still, the game taught me the words/terms "mesa" "tsetse fly" and "raving lunatic" when I was a kid, so yeah.

Ah! The tsetse flies! Ha, classic. Yeah, I kind of miss those old Atari manuals. Galaga came with a comic book that I must've read a hundred times. The little fliers for Activision products were neat, too.

Is that the one that used two controllers?

The little fliers for Activision products were neat, too. Same here. It was super fun to read through the different catalogs from different years. And those comic books were a neat extra---I don't know how many of them there were, but I remember ones for Yar's Revenge, Centipede, and Phoenix at least...apparently they were done by DC Comics. I know that DC legend George Perez did the art for SwordQuest games - not sure if any other "name" artists worked on the other comics. docmarionum1: you got it. One controller for movement & action, one for item usage/management. Playing the game with one working controller was a massive bitch (as was say...using the Star Raiders pad to try playing Basic Programming, which used two of the keypad controllers).

As soon as we all start playing the game and post about it! We just got started, give us some time, man! I mean, unless you really want to hear about the exciting adventures of watching my PSP download shit.

We need to take a tally of "hate" vs "love" after we do this.
All PS3s can play PS1 games right?

So when do we get this shit on the road? Right now. I've already started the game up to make sure it runs in pSX. It seems interesting so far, but it also feels very baroque and stuffed to the gills with arbitrary mechanics, which seems to be a problem a lot of 32-bit RPGs suffered from. I only got past the introduction, so I have no idea what this game has for me in store. Edit:Context.

One thing I always admired about Vagrant Story is that, unlike many other self-absorbed 32-bit RPGs, it will let you completely skip the introduction sequence, including the rather pushover first "boss" fight with the dragon in the church, and skip straight to the Lea Monde wine cellar.

Oh wow, I had no idea you could skip the intro! It's not really that long to begin with, but I can imagine it being annoying to play through again and again, so that's a nice touch.
