Hm. I've always thought that the MMO allowed other "antisocial" gamers to gather together and become...social. Anyway, if its an escape he's after, there are plenty of RPGs for him to get lost in.

Eh. It's always been like this. Just now, a little bit moreso than before.
It isn't always necessarily a bad thing. For every retarded 50 Cent: Bulletproof, there's a Resident Evil 4 or Dead Rising, something that has a REALLY great concept that's not only appealing to non-gamers but also happen to be decent games.

Good article. Also kurt, speaking of Dead Rising I keep hearing that game sucks from everywhere but how is it actually?

Whoever said that is one of those fucking dipshit pussies that are like "oh there are save points and only one save slot this game is too hard boohoo" The game's fantastic. I could rant about later.

Fuck those asshats! This game could be a good incentive for me to snag an XBOX 360. I mean, C'MON! The game has got to be one of the awesomest-looking homages to Dawn of the Dead and you get to use literally EVERYTHING as a weapon against the zombies! I can't say much for its actual gameplay, not having played it and all, but it looks bitching! ;D And I so badly wanna play Resident Evil 4... but I'm working my way up through the rest of the series first. Oh, RE. Why did I not think highly of you until recently, my beloved zombie-exploding game? ... oh, right, the article. Well... I'm up for any game, mainstream or not. However, I just don't want things to become too samey and generic. As long as even just 1% of the gaming industry remains original, I have little to complain about.

Although I don't wanna stray from the topic too much- Dead Rising is total fun I mean you can custard pie zombies! You can dress as a terrifying adult in a little boys outfit, wearing a Serve-bot/Kobuns head whilst simultaneously beating zombies with a light saber! If that isn't fun well... Then I really don't know what is.

About Dead Rising, are the zombies slow? Because I've seen pictures with over a hundred zombies in a room.

Yeah the zombies are slow, you also earn (you gain moves as you level up from completing quests and/or reading books related to firearms and martial arts) moves that allow you to jump over them. In the Paradise Plaza sector food court you can just grab one of the large umbrellas and run around with it held out in front of you while open, shoving everything aside. The game is incredible. It is quite literally River City Ransom only with zombies. Only one player but it's still incredible. If you take a picture of a female zombie's lower area you can get genre points for the "Erotica" category. Uh...

What's awesome is there's parts where you see people getting devoured by zombies and I could have tried to save them and escort them back to the safehouse but instead I got awesome pictures that maximized my score. But yeah the game is pretty fucked up. Also it's a MUST PLAY if you like Dawn of the Dead. It's not just that there's zombies in a shopping mall, it's that there's some areas that are like 1:1 reproductions of shots from that movie. No wonder that disclaimer was on the front of the box!

Dead Rising is one of the reasons I want a 360 really bad. That, and Resident Evil 5. Not to mention Lost Planet, which looks absofuckinglutely amazing. Yep, despite the Megaman Battle Network games, Keiji Inafune is THE MAN.

Did you play the Lost Planet demo yet? If not tell one of your friends to download the free demo off XBox Live, it's AWESOME.

I saw a Dead Rising demo at a friends house. The game does look incredible and is probably a blast to play, though I doubt I'll ever get an X-Box 360.
As for the original article, I always saw video games as escape, self-contained, but while they could promote anti-social behavior, I never equated the two. I think that MMOs are probably worse in the long run for that- simulating life instead of escape, and undermining the value found in plugging into an alternate reality for a few hours a day.
