I've finished Landstalker at least 4 or 5 times so I don't think I'll be joining you. The game is fantastic though, if frustrating and brutal at times, so it's gonna be interesting to see what all y'all think of it! God I love this game. And hate it too.

The only hints you're allowed are from the other people playing the game (or occasionally there's an "expert" on hand that has beaten the game before that might be able to offer advice).

You're probably okay with whatever emulator's "suspend save" feature it ends up using, if you need to quit in a hurry and can't make it to a save point. Just don't cheat with it is all...

It's significantly easier on a good D-Pad - I'm using a (US second-revision) Saturn controller, which makes pressing diagonals quite a bit less painful. However, I'm finding the controls a bit touchy still. If you like to rapid-fire the attack button, it's hard to make Nigel swing in other directions. Platforming is a bit of a pain but it's possible to get used to it.
Some things worth noting about the controls: for those of you playing on a keyboard, you can tap up and right to start moving northeast, then let go of up and keep holding right to maintain that direction. Tapping down will make Nigel start going southeast instead. I can imagine it'll still be a bit of a pain, though, and I really wish I could just make the controls act like they do in FF Tactics or Q*Bert.
It is possible to pick up items like crates while jumping. You will need to do this to pick up an essential plot item in Gumi Village.
Using EkeEke herbs restores 10 health. If you die and Friday uses one on you, she heals 11 health. Horde EkeEke herbs! You'll absolutely need them, considering almost everything can damage you. Thankfully there is no falling damage, but avoid touching boulders, even if they aren't moving - I guess they're superheated or something.
If you tire of jumping puzzles when you reach the Swamp Shrine, you can "bypass" them if you're willing to sacrifice some health...I don't recommend that though, you'll need the EkeEke herbs a lot for that dungeon.
Oh, it's possible to place crates on top of rolling boulders, and they'll carry the crate. If you then stand on said crate, you will need to walk along with it to stay on top of it. I haven't found a scene where I need to do this yet, but I get this morbid feeling that I'll need to eventually.

The pick it up here, put it over there, cratesmanship of this game is giving me Vagrant Story flashbacks. So much so that I keep pressing the shoulder buttons on my PSP trying to get a better camera angle...
BTW, until my REAL Landstalker arrives in the mail, I'll be playing a rom marked as (beta) just in case there are any interesting differences. I doubt it's legit.

Started the game up today, and I've already made it past the first dungeon, the swamp temple. I'm a huge fan of isometric games, so I'm really enjoying this. The controls took some getting used to, but after about 15 minutes or so I was platforming like a pro. I remember playing this game years ago, but I've forgotten everything about it, including how fast it plays. I was really surprised by how quickly Nigel moves and jumps. If there's one major annoyance I have with the game so far, it's the lack of invincibility time between hits. It's very easy to get knocked into a corner by a group of enemies, who will then stun lock you with impunity. On an unrelated note, how do you guys pronounce "EkeEke"? I say "eh-kee-eh-kee", but I'm curious how you guys say it.

Some more tips.
In the Swamp Shrine, fighting the King Orcs in the final room can be made quite a bit easier if you try to knock them off the ledge. I think there might only be a few specific portions of the ramp that you can actually knock things off of, though.
When you make it to the dockside village (I forget its name - you can't get into Mercator right away without a safe-passage letter), all the villagers pretty much clam up when you talk to them. There's a meeting hall on the rightmost edge of the village, but nobody in there will talk to you until you walk behind the meeting hall and talk to the kid that's bouncing up and down behind it.
