While I was browsing at Unseen64 I found this interesting article about Mii's history and how it started as an idea many years ago from Famicom Disk System and followed at Nintendo 64DD and Gamecube but only in Wii they finally had the opportunity to materialise it like they wanted with success. The Famicom/NES in general was still pretty much ahead of it's time, aside from graphics/sound. Unofficially, but wireless controllers existed for it. Wii has that exercise board, but the NES had that pad that you ran on.
Hell, probably the greatest feature of the Famicom, which sucked for us, since it was a disk system, was that they could save their created tracks in Excitebike, or their Lode Runner or Wrecking Crew created stages.
^If that one feature(user creative content within the context of the games) came back to the majority of gaming, instead of things revolving around scripted sequences to get through a story, the longevity of gaming would skyrocket. Hell, any wrestling gaming fan knows it already, especially if they're hardcore enough to get into Fire Pro. Of course, games would then have to get more creative, and couldn't churn numbers out like they do now, but the quality would most likely improve.

In regards to wireless controllers, NES also the the Akklaim wireless remote controller, and the Akklaim Double Play. From what I heard, they did actually work, but they sucked the lives out of batteries, like there was no tomorrow.

I suppose it's possible in some specific cases, but I just can't picture creating one's own content for one's own use as generally extending the life of a game.

My siblings are heavy into user-generated content in both Little Big Planet and the Halo games. And I can say it definitely prolonged the uses of their games. Every weekday my brother meets up with his friends and they each bring halo maps they've been working on to play on. They share amongst each other and they take other maps to other friends. Whenever my brothers just randomly searching for types of maps finding a good one is just as easy as going on Youtube and looking at highly-rated videos of maps. They're not all crap. And alotta really innovated stuff takes the game to places that the regular maps never did.

I think mid-90s Famicom clones may well have been the first consoles to come with wireless controllers as standard, too - the Micro Genius IQ-1000 (one wired and one wireless) and IQ-2000 (both wireless). But Micro Genius were a pretty big manufacturer of both Famiclones and wireless controllers for other systems, so I suppose it only made sense to combine the two.
