I haven't played many wrestling games (my experience is pretty much summed up with Sega's Wrestle War and some crappy pro wrestling game on the 2600, among others) but I advise anybody to avoid Day of Reckoning 2. The load times pretty much killed it for me (all I wanted to do was create a wrestler, and it took upwards of a whole minute just to go between menus).

Surprised no one mentioned the epoch Fire Pro Wrestling: 6 Man Scramble for JP Saturn. Wrestling multiplayer paradise. I also liked the THQ wrestlers on N64 (WM 2000, NWO vs. the World, etc.)

I agree with Gilder and Reyvgm the N64 Yuke games were the bomb. Some of the newer wrestling games are good but they lak a certiant Macho Man quility of the Randy Savage variety. Also I dare anyone to play the character creator for one of the newer PS2 wrestling games and try to not have fun.

I dunno about Wrestlemania 21 but Raw 2 had the custom soundtrack option which made things alot more fun and the actual wrestling reminded me alot of Fire Pro. Far from the best but I really like Raw 2. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH YEAH SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM I can tell my kids I saw Macho Man Wrestle Andre the Giant Live in 88 during a Superstars/Wrestling Challenge taping back when they taped 6 months of shows in 1 night I've also been to 1 Ntrio where a riot almost broke out, 2 raws, the 2003 Royal Rumble, Armageddon this year and Summerslam last sunday where I was 4 rows from the floor and right next to the stage with the ring crew to my left Anyways I dunno about Wrestlemania 21 but Raw 2 had the custom soundtrack option which made things alot more fun and the actual wrestling reminded me alot of Fire Pro. Far from the best but I really like Raw 2.

michiyoyoshiku: that makes me lol, but good game @ seeing MM vs. Andre. Wish I could've seen that.
I played the N64 wrestling games; they were pretty cool at the time. Today, well...but hey.

The only one I really remember playing and remembering was the WWF arcade game from the early 90's, where you could be the Hulkster or Andre the Giant. I've only tried the modern WWF games once, when a young relative proceeded to hand me my ass on a platter. Too complicated to play!
I hear Fire Pro is a really good sim - anyone explain this in more detail? I am kinda interested in how this game plays.

The only possible answer that there can be to this question is Fire Pro Returns. Please look at it like this- I hate wrestling. The last time I watched it was in the 80s when I was a little kid and Hulk Hogan and the Iron Sheik and people like that were going about. And I thought it sucked EVEN THEN. However, the minute I played Fire Pro D (a friend brought it over one day) on the DC, I thought, "This is a great game..." I've tried playing other wrestling games, thinking I've been missing out, and none play as well or are as satisfying as good old Fire Pro. Although King of Colosseum comes close (basically the 3d version of Fire Pro, actually). Why is Fire Pro so good? 1) There is absolutely no (zero) button mashing. The game is pure skill and the gameplay revolves around precise timing and strategy. Seriously! I am told that this simulates a Japanese wrestling match... who knows? Basically, you have to wear your opponent down before you can do the impressive moves (recently American wrestling games have started to do this as well). You perform moves by pressing a button or a direction plus a button. The success of the move depends on your timing, the distance from you to your opponent, and your relative energy level. Your character can easily get winded depending on his stats, so you need to create opportunities during which he can recover. 2) The graphics are really labors of love. Technically I guess they are awful. You have sprites wrestling on sort of lousy 3d backgrounds. However, there is so much detail and animation in the sprites that it becomes quite charming. It looks great in motion, and doesn't have the "jittery stop-start you are controlling robots/zombies" look that most 3d wrestling games have. The game seems slower than other wrestling games because of the control scheme, but once you get skillful the game plays so quickly and smoothly that you will be blown away. 3) The Create-A-Wrestler has yet to be matched by any game in any genre. There are thousands and thousands of moves! The visual aspects of the CAW mode are not as robust as the Smackdown series, but it's probably as good as you can get in a 2d game without packaging a sprite art program with it. You choose from hundreds of predrawn heads, clothing pieces, etc, and then layer it all together to make some very impressive combinations. People have made stunning replications of Spiderman, various Street Fighter characters, some characters from Kinnikuman, and all sorts of such things. So after you've designed the look and moves of your character, you then have to work on the stats, choose the wrestling style, and finally program the AI (optional). The AI programming is done by assigning commands such as "When tired, the chance of doing such and such a move is 60%" and "When opponent is outside the ring, do XXX 50% of the time" Another interesting wrestling game is Square's All Star Pro Wrestling III. With the exception of the 360 wrestling game, ASPW3 is still the best looking wrestling game out there. The animation is unreal! However, it plays a lot like most wrestling games- tons of button mashing.

I always kind of liked WWF RAW.
Saturday Night Slam Masters and it's sequel were ok.
I have played several Fire Pro games. Could anybody name every game in the series?
