Get the podcast here! Get all the action and all the excitement, brought to you live! ...Not live! Whatever!
Happy Force of Jul-DIE.
Welcome back to our second GC9X Fight tournament! Start the grill, because there's going to be some major fireworks going on this time. We've got some all-time hits lined up, so be ready to beat the competition red, white and blue.
This time around, we've got a "patriotic" theme going on, since it's July and all, starring some of the most violently American characters we could find. Even if the games themselves weren't made in America.
Voting will begin now and end on the Thursday, July 12th. And what are our games this time around?
For fighters, we've got:
Marvel Super Heroes
A game that would go on to spawn one of the most beloved fighter franchises out there, starring some of the greatest heroes and villians in the Marvel universe. ...And Shuma-Gorath. I picked this game because... well, Captain America. Duh.
World Heroes Perfect
One of the many, many fighting games to pull off the 'let's take a bunch of people from different time periods and make them fight' story, World Heroes Perfect is the fourth and final game in this less than well-remembered series. Still, if you're big on SNK games, and like goofy characters, this'll be your game. We picked this because it has a giant demonic football player and a man who wears the American flag as a speedo.
Kizuna Encounter
Another of the Neo-Geo's less known fighters, this game is unique for its tag-team gameplay, which is closer to something like Tekken Tag Tournament than a VS game. Stars a man who wears the American flag (not as a speedo, thankfully).
For non-competitive games, we've only got just one, but we're trying something new this time around... introducing...
And we're introducing this new challenge with...
Metal Slug
The game that started a beautifully animated, yet ball-twistingly difficult run-and-gun shooter makes its way to GC9X Fight for the first time. Take control of Marco and Tarma as they fight to save America from the forces ofthe Nazisthe rebel army, led by the heinous Saddam HussienGeneral Morden!
Here's how this is going to work. This will be a two-player game. Just play how you normally would. When you finish Stage 2, however, stop and compare your scores. Whoever has the highest score at the end of Stage 2 is the winner!
Remember, you've got July 12th to cast your vote. Since I'll be on vacation, I might not be able to count votes until I get back on the 16th. Votes after the 12th won't be counted, just so you know.
If you're a returning challenger to the tournament, you'll know what to do once we set a date for the tournament. If you're new, though...
1. Download and install MAMEHub from here.
2. Find the roms for the games voted on. Keep in mind you'll need at LEAST ROMS for MAME 0.144!
3. Put the zip files in your MAMEHub rom folder.
4. Start MAMEHUB, make an account, and pick Audit Games from the drop-down menu.
Keep in mind you might need to forward TCP and UDP ports 5805. You don't HAVE to do this, but whoever's hosting WILL need to do so to host a match.
