I like Samurai and Yakuza Films as much as the next person. But I would like to boraden things.
As I type this I'm watching House of Flying Daggers which is nothing less than a thing of beauty.
So what are some of your favorite Non Japanese Asian Films?

Crouching Tiger, To Live, and Hero are all excellent movies (from the director of House fo Flying Daggers). Deep Shaft was another Chinese film that piqued my interest- a drama set against the corruption amid rural coal mining in modern day China. Most Jackie Chan flicks out of Hong Kong are worth a viewing.
Finally, though I have yet to see the entirety of it, there was a fight scene from the Korean film Old Boy that was pretty impressive, with its protagonist wielding a hammer better than even the Hammer Bros. (Cheesy analogy, yes, but eh...)

The Eye is a good chinese scare that goes hilariously overboard in the final part.

From all of non-Japanese Asian films, I've mostly just seen Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies.

Over the past year, Hong Kong films have become something of an obsession of mine. I haven't had so much time to watch movies lately, but I have seen some great stuff. I'm mostly into the martial arts and heroic bloodshed (highly charged police films) section, though a notable exception to that is Chungking Express, which is a good exposition of HK's more abstract persona. Drunken Master II is practically a must, if not just for the last twenty minutes of the film alone. The final battle against Jackie Chan and Ken Lo, his bodyguard in real life, is comparable to a fight between Dracula vs. Yoda*. Once Upon A Time In China is also excellent, perhaps Jet Li's finest film. It's a bit longer than most action films are, but it also has a good amount of drama and a more developed plot than most action films. If you want to know what John Woo can do, go for either A Better Tomorrow or The Killer. Hell, go for both. Chow Yun Fat is something of an idol of mine. ;D I'm something of a Stephen Chow aficionado, so I endorse Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, especially the latter. I haven't seen many old-school films, but Master of the Flying Guillotine is as classic as classics get. Just forget about the plot and concentrate on the crazy ridiculous action. Ashes of Time... I wouldn't exactly recommend it if you're looking for a popcorn flick. If, however, you're appreciative of fine cinematic art, I recommend it. Just be prepared to be a slight tad confused if you watch it just once. I've recommended a good deal enough, and most of the things I've seen have been influenced by this very cool website: www.hkfilm.net/*Who can guess what show I got the idea for Dracula vs. Yoda?

Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky fantastic Riki-oh indeed! That's one of my favorites. I also really like Master of the Flying Guillotine, and Crippled Avengers is awesome.

I love those Jet li old movies. They are so dumb it's fucking funny (and also because of the bad voice acting).

Chinese action movies at there best are truly amazing. Jackie Chan's Chinese movies are WAY better than his Hollywood crap. Same goes for Jet Li. Any Chinese Jackie Chan movie is worth your time, but if you are willing to rent, start with Drunken Master. Ledgend of Drunken Master is Drunken Master 2 in China. Both are amazing, but the original defies belief. Project A is probably his second best. Police Story is probably his third best. As far as Jet Li, start with Shaolin Temple. Some other amazing Chinese action movies would be Butterfly Murders (there are two movies with this name so be careful which you get), Dirty Ho (yes that is it's real name), Tai Chi, Hard Boiled, and anything by director King Hu. His best being Dragon Gate Inn. Ong-Bak was a pretty good movie from Thailand. Shaolin Soccer and Kung-Fu Hustle are decent comedies. Iron Monkey is also worth seeing.
Are you interested in non samurai, non yakuza Japanese movies? I could recommend MANY of those.

The Returner (yeah, so that's Japanese), Kung Fu Hustle, and Operation Condor (my all-time favorite Jackie Chan movie, for the sole reason that it has the highly amusing wind tunnel fight scene).

Some Japanese movies I would recommend for anybody interested:
Versus. SEE THIS MOVIE. A vampire/samurai/mob/crime/zombie/horror/science fiction/fantasy/comedic action movie. Has zombie mobsters shooting kung fu fighting mobsters, vampires sword fighting convicts, vampire mobsters firing guns that are almost as large as they are, and a totaly non-related side plot. Totaly crazy. The Movie Channel plays this sometimes. Ironman is also recommended. Extremely weird and disturbing. Do not blame me if you see it and find it too disturbing. Not a horror movie. Avalon also is recommended. Slow paced like crazy but ok. Stacy is also recommended. Best zombie movie ever. Battle Royale and Suicide Club are very recommended also, and I totaly forgot about The Returner. That was not horrible or anything.
