Did not Falcom get in trouble in the past by, uh, borrowing art from this one popular series? I will give you a hint, it was the exact art from their Ultima III: Exodus manual. That got them sued, they had to settle their huge lawsuit outside court. They did, indeed.

Neverwinter Nights had several character portraits which were very obviously based on photos of famous actors. They've subsequently been patched out of the game though.

Mobygames has one, but none of the stores in the first town are from the Exodus manual, and after that the game just traps me in an endlessly repeating labyrinth...

Added more content to most pages. Here's also some more for you to guess: This one has nipples: Both have elements taken from Rambo, but there's more to them. Especially the pose of the woman on Final Zone Wolf I've definitely seen elsewhere. Also while I was searching for Ultima 3 images, the NES cover also looks not original: And I also thought the right guy on the Super Contra flyer was a loose inspiration of Schwarzenegger in Commando, until I found this: Maybe it stems from the rocket launcher in First Blood Part II instead? But I can't find the shot anywhere...

I think that Super Pinball II should be included in there, since the Spy Eyes table seems to take some stuff outta James Bond.

Where do these come from? If you were asking me, page 5 of the article. And this, from the second link in the first post, is, clearly: That one made me laugh. looks like Jackie Chan:

If you were asking me, page 5 of the article. Well actually I meant "which game".

Great article. This is really good stuff. When I was trying to find out if any of the Final Fight art had been traced from something related to movie Streets of Fire (the game was apparently inspired by that movie and they have plenty of similarities), I came across this site showing off possible influences in Capcom's fighting games. Not exactly traces, but it might give more ideas on which one's to look at fightingstreet.com/folders/variousinfofolder/ripofffolder/ripoffpage1.html

Another fantastic article. Incidentally, "Walt Disney" from Shadow of the Comet is almost certainly Eli Wallach.

"They look a bit different, but the fact that they're both standing on a set of stairs (and the angle of the stairs in the Castlevania III cover doesn't make a speck of sense) seems to give away their connection."
Just wanted to point out that those aren't steps, he's standing on a cog from the clocktower.

Someone on Twitter suspects that the revised portrait of the title screen ninja in Revenge of Shinobi is based on David Ciang. He posted a link but I can't copy/paste it at the moment.
