Can anyone recognize these faces from the Famicom game called World Grand Prix? The game was released in 1989, so I guess the faces must belong to famous Formula 1 drivers from the 80s. I know #2 is Nigel Mansell and #6 is Ayrton Senna, but I can't recognize the others.

The TCRF article implies the drivers might be named so that might make it more clear. Also, this game was released in the US as Al Unser Jr's Turbo Racing and Al Jr. is all over the game (not surprisingly, of course!)

#3 and #5 are the only ones I'm missing. Based on the pictures and the Japanese names: 1 = Alain Prost (A.フロスト) 2 = Nigel Mansell (N.マーセル) 3 = Stefan Johansson (S.ジョハンソン) 4 = Nelson Piquet (N.ビッケ) 6 = Ayrton Senna (A.セーナ) Michael Schumacher would not have been in an F1 game released in 89-91.

One I'm surprised hasn't come up: the cover of Blades of Steel is from a photo of Wayne Gretzky and Tomas Jonsson. Apparently Konami was actually sued over this one!

Was looking at the First Queen opening, and I noticed it has some more Frazetta in it.

Japanese magazine ad for the arcade game "Magical Spot" by UNIVERSAL on cocktail table (mid 1980), the art is visibly more than inspired by the cover art used for CREEPY magazine #105 (feb 1979) by the famed Esteban Maroto.
Universal's game art makes the insect's head more fly-ish . The winged enchantress/fairy theme is reprised by Universal a year later with the game "Lady Bug" (1981).
User manual has the same art as the japanese ad but in B&W.
a side by side comparison for those who may still have doubts :
US & EU flyer artwork looks off :
The insect in Galaxian (namco 1979) is robotic unlike the creatures above
In 1981 Galaga's robot insect goes googly-eye but in 1988, Namco's Galaga'88 shows a vaguely resembling insect like creature in style to the one from Universal (see next post ofr possible inspiration source) :
