The Goonies II is what this game aspires to be. That one also had first person modes, what makes it count as an example while this one does not is how the game is made. It is too linear as Feynman says, the only ways you can break sequence is at the start just by pure error. Yeah, I'm going to refer to this as Broke-Ass Goonies II from now on. I will say though that I'm astounded at its similarities to a certain movie (won't say which...Snarboo brought this up on IRC and I think he should discuss it in the podcast).

Honestly, the first-person stuff is the only thing that makes Dr. Chaos worth playing, and even then it's nothing more than a novelty. The game is incredibly repetitive and tedious, and about as generic as an action game can get... except for the first-person house part, which is interesting but ultimately just as shallow and uninspired as the rest of the game.
Also, can we all agree that the goal of the game being to rescue Dr. Chaos is really weird? Dr. Chaos sounds like the name of somebody who should be trying to thwart Batman.

I beat Dr. Chaos about 10 minutes ago! Many thanks to one and all for the tips given. I think once you get the first health bottle and get through the horrific water section for the jumping boots you are golden. I used the password feature (pause and then press A+B as mentioned earlier) before I started a warp zone and having got out of one too- I guess that is kinda cheating but hey - it paid off Beat it in two sittings and what can I say? Ugly little game - the graphics and music are kinda horrible but I did find it enjoyable mapping out the rooms and ticking off the pieces of the laser weapon as I went along. The enemies respawn rate was kinda loathesome all around though that is for sure

After a brief break, I've finally beaten Dr. Chaos! It was an enjoyable game overall, if not one without its faults. I really liked the odd mix of adventure and platformer elements. There aren't a whole lot of games like it, which is kind of a shame. Just as a general reminder, there will be a Dr. Chaos Stream tonight at 10:30 PM EST! Here's a link to the stream for the new page.

Finished it too. The tips here made it very easy in the end. I liked it. The password system was great - it effectively removed all challenge.
TIP: The skeleton snake boss is super easy. If you hit his body it splits in two, up to about 10 or so skulls if you keep doing this, all with high HP. But here's the trick: He moves in a rigid sine wave. Time it so you're standing in front of his skull as it reaches its lowest point, and fire a single bullet. He'll then start moving up, missing you. Also, with the high jump boots you can leap over him easily. Just shoot his skull, but NEVER his body, and you only have to defeat one easy enemy. About 10 bullets should do it.

I finally started playing this, and now I've just got three pieces to go.
The problem is that the challenge mostly comes from bullshit, and at this point in the game most of my time's being spent picking up every ammo and health drop throughout the house.

Damnit Kal, where's your drawing? Also, this podcast is going to blow your soul apart. As a teaser, Snarboo made an amazing discovery that will revolutionize the way you look at Pony Canyon games for the rest of your pathetic lives. Prepare to hang yourselves in your bathrooms, and stay tuned!

The true nightmare inside us all. For Blackthrone I think I'm going to try to do a more anti-aliased look.

You have to use grenades. Hit him with three grenades while he's visible and you win. Realy ? Cause I never used them once on anything in my playthrough and still won. Did I just broke the game If my OCD acts up, I think I might end up playing this Arino-style... You mean you'll spend eight hours on this and then forget to continue ?
