Thanks. Well done is also the article.
By the way, finding a complete copy of this game seems to be near impossible. I've been trying to find a copy from time to time for at least a year. With no luck, catdammit. ;D

I'm aware that I've probably missed a complete copy when there has been one, since I only check eBay whenever I've money to buy something, which is like two times a month. The most complete auction that I've seen so far was for the cartridge and manual.

I enjoyed this article; I particularly always appreciate it when HG101 brings that sort of behind-the-scenes historical-perspective information to the forefront.
You have to love that, at some point, someone took this compelling puzzle design and said, in typical Japanese fashion, "Needs more cat-people."

Would that have anything to do with PITGAL that was featured in the Oh!MZ November 1985 issue?

Could be! Do you actually have that magazine? Because if so, Derboo mentioned he'd like to type up the BASIC listing for archive purposes, which I thought was an ingenious idea. It looks like that says: "PITMAN M PITGAL". Could it be an update which features the dual character element? Various places say the first only had around ~50 levels, as opposed to the GB's 100 - so maybe the second included PITGIRL as a second controllable person. All speculation of course. My original source was this: bgm.sub.jp/700USA/700softlist2.htmlIf that is the magazine, I'd love some scans of the BASIC listing. Nice find!

Could be! Do you actually have that magazine? No i don't own it, the picture itself is from a Yahoo auction: page5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e109822777If you want to bid for it, you have roughly 12 hours left... Initially I was going to see if I can find the cover for the Aug'85 issue. I did find an auction for it, but it had already ended so the page was gone. Not too sure if this is useful info, but I did manage to find out that the Oh!MZ magazines are also identified by the topic that is printed on the cover. For example, the Nov'85 issue above has: マシン語入門大全集 Aug'85 issue has: GAME25時パソコンは眠れな い It looks like that says: "PITMAN M PITGAL". Could it be an update which features the dual character element? hmmm... to me it looks like 'PITMAN & PITGAL' As expected there's absolutely no solid info about it, but random chit-chat from BBS forums seem to suggest that Pitgal is a seperate game that may have been released for the X1. Possibly a port? Or a sequel? Why isn't it listed on Isokawa's site? An unofficial sequel like Ms.Pacman? Oh, so many questions.

Awesome, thanks for the link and the information! 4 hours now... I would bid, but I haven't logged in with my Y!J account in years, and I'm not sure how I'd pay the guy. Credit card? Would probably be pretty fiddly to arrange, plus it's a bit more than I'm willing to pay for a retro magazine.

I'm absolutely convinced this game was reviewed in a UK magazine (possibly Total!) as "Power Paws".

After some googling, I found out that there's a review of Power Paws in the free handheld magazine that came inside Computer and Video Games, issue 141 (Aug 1993): So I guess the game was released as Power Paws in the UK? Either that or only the review copy was called that.
