By and far one of the best to ever grace the web was www.bobbincranbud.com The RPG playoffs were a load of fun (and something that maybe even one day HG 101 might be crazy enough to continue with- who knows?), their other segments were amusing and fun to read, especially the fanfics, but their shining moments came with the RPG Inquisitor, which might be the funniest VG parody stuff out there (running up against Penny Arcade and the like). Another other favorite or forgotten gaming sites of yore?

I used to run a site that's still hosted by CG/GameSpy. I joined them back when Kevin "Fragmaster" Bowen was running the site. He was never unattainable and always came off very helpful and friendly. I miss GOTW and all of the other features. His successor wasn't completely horrible, but he just wasn't Fragmaster. Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_%22Fragmaster%22_BowenPersonal Site: kevinbowen.com/Yeah, I come off as a fan, but I just thought he was a pleasure to "work" with. tsr's NES archive was an awesome place to find when I first came across it. I remember reading RPGamer's Q&A column daily when "Thor" ran it. There's been a hell of a lot of sites that I've read on a frequent basis, but I can't remember many of them right now.

Yeah Fragmaster was awesome, he was the one who saved the Castlevania Dungeon from the depths of Geocities. Check out Doom House on Something Awful to see some of his awesome acting skills. I think his replacement was Benjamin Turner, who I believe is still with Gamespy in some capacity. He was pretty cool too, but after he left administrating Classicgaming then it kind of went downhill. I'll nominate the GIA - Gaming Intelligence Agency. Great site on less mainstream stuff, usually RPGs and puzzle games, with great writing and a nice daily column. There was also a good Falcom wiki that seems to have imploded upon itself as of last month. It was far from complete but any English source for Falcom stuff is great in my book.

I actually forgot it was Ben Turner who took over. BenT's always seemed like a cool guy, too. Like I said, Kevin just seemed to do such a wonderful job at it. Ben did well, but it seemed like there were more communication issues for me whenever I had a question after Kevin left.

I liked Toastyfrog back when it was funny and had all those funny reviews. Now it's... just another games site.

The same thing with solid sharkey.
God, I feel old. The only VG sites I can even mention that are still around are the CV dungeon and Metroid database, and one of those is dead.
Though, flying omelette was pretty kickin back in the day.

Flying Omelette is still pretty kickin'.
And unlike Toastyfrog, FO archives her stuff.

I remember the old Bobbin Crandub site. I mainly went there for the RPGP, and never bothered with the other sections, and was an active member of the community that sprung up around the forum the site hosted (both versions).

The OPCFG was great when it was still updated. I also remember some site called "shoot the core" by Roger Post (aka the Postman). Oh, after looking for it, I found out it's still around: shootthecore.moonpod.com/Home.htmlAnd of course the Gia brings back some memories. Excelent article about Silent Hill for example. What about Davesclassics? Who doesn't remember the time when that site was one of the few where you could download emulated games... Classicgaming was high on my bookmark list when the Fragmaster was there. The mailbag and Game of the week were true classics! And for MGS fans, the Snake Soup was great. Lots of reviews and a very active forum, for the time being though. WTF! It's online again: www.thesnakesoup.orgHave to check my offline site list more often. Had a few surprises today, hey!
