Or if you're feeling adventurous, import Ys I and II Eternal for the PC and use NightWolve's english translation patches.

I would recommend this route- my prior exposure was Ys III on the SNES which...isn't one of the better chapters of the series. The next exposure was Ys Eternal ( thanks to the HG101 article ) and it was worth every penny

Or if you're feeling adventurous, import Ys I and II Eternal for the PC and use NightWolve's english translation patches. You mean Ys I and II Complete. NightWolve's patches doesn't work with Eternal versions - only with the Complete versions. Besides, you can only buy Ys I and II Eternal games used.

I've got either eternal or complete, I have no clue. Worth every penny that I didn't actually spend.

I'm starting to hate this year. I'm already going to spend seventy dollars for Lost Planet on the same date.

The PSP Ys game Ark of Napishtim is not bad. Its actually more faithful to the original PC version. Ark of Napishtim for the PS2 is much better in my opinion. As far to start, I would play Ys Book I and II for the Turbo DUO. You can emulate via Magic Engine emulator if you dont have the original hardware. Is that the not free one?

I am sure you could find the disc image for download somewhere and the emulator for free somewhere... but technically you could do the same for Ys Eternal... The only place either game is really available is on Ebay or some other used video game store outlet :-\

I have the first Ys game for the Famicom translated..not sure how much of the game is translated however... I just played the PC Engine and Eternal versions I do know the first part was released translated for the Master System though? edit: Oh and it seems the second part was fan translated as well, again, I am unsure of how much of this was translated... edit 2: Although the Mastersystem version looks a lot better and appears to have a better layout than the famicom version, you are going to have to stomach a lot of "thee"s and "thou"s...justa forewarning!

I imigine the Master System Version would be hard to find. The MS is my oldest system AND ontop of that it still freakin works! Just missing that impossible to track down AV cable.
The Master System was such a Great system, I think it deserves it's own thread

The Master System was such a Great system, I think it deserves it's own thread Actually the original master system version (at least the UK release) usually goes for quite reasonable money (about £10/$20) which I don't think is to bad given the game and the age of it. This is complete copies too btw.

Then I guess....you could drift into the shady underworld of eeemmmullaattshhhion! or emulation as some folk refer to it as hehe. It's weird to think of a console that only done well in Europe- though I am sure there are a few USA only games that justify me having a modded Mastersystem

Ys ORIGIN website is now online: www.falcom.co.jp/yso/Looks like the only bonus is Ys ORIGIN Visual Book, a 120 page full-color artwork book.
