Playing Beat Street and I’m trying to figure out if I should evolve my characters now or get them to max level first.

I'm in a tough spot because I *REALLY* want to play DQ3 again but don't want to play on mobile, play the fan-translations of SNES or hunt down the GBC version. I want to support this series in the West on current platforms. That is what makes these editions desirable still. The enemy art is okay, you are getting Toriyama art. The inconsistent sprite job is what's so weird. It's SNES backgrounds but the characters look like they belong for a different platform. The enemy art looks a lot worse than it's ever looked. It's always been Toriyama art, the difference is it's horribly rendered. And yes, those hi-res sprites look like absolute garbage. I want to support the series too, but I can't support Square Enix's weird habits of making its re-releases look terrible. So I'll buy the Switch version of DQXI, but I can't touch those trash ports.

Like I said before, the enemy art looks like stock RPG Maker art.

I kind of blame mobile games for that. The art in most insanely popular mobile games is in the same style of these Dragon Quest games. The art in these mobile games is like that because the budgets are small so they get terrible artists to produce passable art as quickly as possible in adobe illustrator. So when the executives look at the art that is in the most popular games they see the disgusting art in these mobile games and then commission the artwork to be in a similar style as 'its like that in popular games so its what people want'.
It kind of doesn't make sense for Dragon Quest as it's a series so ingrained in nostalgia they still use the NES sound effects and midi sequenced music. I'm sure if they just used the NES/SNES sprites the audience for these games in japan would lap it up. This art isn't really going to appeal to new fans in the west.
Still it's not the worst art I've seen and will pick up all three as I really enjoyed playing through DQ1 a few months ago for the first time and always wanted to give DQ2 and especially 3 a go. will be buying the shit out of DQXI as well, enjoyed what I played on PC but the switch release looks like it adds an absolute tonne of new stuff.

Fandom can be strange. This months Game Informer has an interview with the author of a book called PokeNatomy which comes up with the biology of Pokemon. Not a fan of the franchise but looks like a page turner.

So, my Switch adventures are about to begin and I’ve decided to go for the new Lite version after all. Only problem is I really don’t care for the colors available. I’d like a red one or a hot pink one. Or even something clean like a white one.
But more than anything it makes me wonder why Nintendo didn’t bring us a Link’s Awakening themed limited edition Switch Lite? It seems like a no brainer and would’ve sold like hot cakes. Both the game and the Lite were released on the same day and everything, and I can’t be the only one wanting to buy both, right? Missed opportunity if you ask me. But who am I even...

I'm totally shocked that there isn't one! There were so many limited edition 3DSes. It feels like every major release got one.

Yeah, and releasing Link’s Awakening and a new Switch model on the very same day can’t have been a coincidence. It’s like Nintendo just forgot to bundle the two and slap a nice Zelda design on the console. I’m not a marketing expert, but.... c’mon!

About 10 hours into Final Fantasy now. I've had to use approximately one million antidote potions by this point. Seriously, enemies have so far not had a lot of different moves. It's the occasional darkness or stun, but mostly it's just getting poisoned a whole bunch. Really curious. Not even any of the bosses so far did anything but just attack.
The magic system is getting pretty interesting at this point. I like having to decide what spells to get. I will say that I feel that so far, the amount of spells you can use before you have to go back to the inn is a little on the low side. But at least my Black Mage and White Mage are handling themselves a little better with their regular attacks now.

The bosses in Final Fantasy are really not particularly specacular or powerful, it's really a war of attrition of getting through the whole dungeon up to and still having enough ressources left for the battle with them.

There is so much footage of Link's Awakening circulating already. Even if I had a Switch it would be difficult to justify the purchase.
It's interesting that Grandma Ulrira has gone back to saying YAHOO! instead of YIPEE! as in the Virtual Console releases of LA:DX. I also never knew about this Bucket Mouse thing.
But I remember reading not so long ago that someone discovered there was an enemy in the game that could be instantly defeated by using the Toadstool – not the Magic Powder, but the actual Toadstool itself! I think it was the first of the final Nightmares? I can't seem to find the reference anymore. The obvious question is whether they thought to include that in the Switch version.
EDIT: Eureka!

There is so much footage of Link's Awakening circulating already. Even if I had a Switch it would be difficult to justify the purchase. Same here, not planning to get a Switch any time soon. It's dissapointing that gameplay-wise it seems to be more or less the same, so it doesn't hold many surprises to those that are already familiar with the original. Some new areas, enemies, puzzles and changed layouts would've made a huge difference. For purists they even could've thrown in the emulated original, like they did with Metroid Zero Mission. I mean, even the DX version added a new dungeon, that's the least I would've expected from the current remake. But alas, Nintendo is a different kind of company now. Also I'm still not sold on the excessive glossiness of the visuals. And that dungeon-shuffling mode requires the purchase of an actual plastic Link to save, which is utter BS.
For newcomers it's probably a great introduction: it features less item-switching, great animation and fantastic music. But for anybody who values the elegance of the classic design/not willing to pay the relatively high price of admission, quality of life improvement hacks exist to make the original a smoother experience.
