Actually Hang On's theme in Cool Riders isn't tied to any character (you need to change it manually in-game, thru the music selectors). But yeah, I think it's worth mentioning in the Hang On article. It sort of is. Even though you can change themes anytime you wish, each bike/rider has a default associated with it.

Finished up this one too. Added the stuff in this thread regarding the Mac version, a pic I took of the Super Hang-On cabinet, mention of the different tracks in the ride-on machine, slightly expanded reviews, and a whole new write-up for Racing Hero, along with more pics. And a mention of Enduro Racer. Plus Cool Riders, which is currently unemulated, but is apparently coming along nicely, according to some vids on Youtube. I've got a review of that written up for next update, I just need to muck with the computer versions for that.

Well, Cool Riders is working in the current MAME development tree except for the sound (that tends to play wrong notes from time to time for unknown reasons). Grabbing one of the latest command line-based MAMEs like 0.148u4 should do the trick.

I saw some of the videos and it looks pretty cool.

Perhaps it would be important to note that the name "Hang-on", is a mistake made by Suzuki himself and Japanese Superbike magazines of the time. (He has said that in an interview, I've seen it myself.) He meant to name the game after the "Hang-off" motorcycle racing maneuver where the rider leans the bike with his body close to the road for cornering, because the game would allow the player to do this with his own body.
However, even after realizing the mistake, the name Hang-on stuck.

That sounds like solid trivia, can anybody corroborate that to a source?

It's mentioned on Wikipedia, with a source note to an episode of Game Center CX. Sounds like a good thing to add in, thanks!

Maybe a little frivolous, but perhaps this new bit of information could be supplemented with a picture of a real "hang-off"? Shouldn't be hard to find a free picture for it on Creative Commons or Wikimedia.

Is a separate photo really necessary when the gmae's flyer/cover itself shows the move?
EDIT: Now I want someone to ask Yu Suzuki if Sega has ever gotten a complaint by someone who had fallen off the Hang-On bike...

Sorry for double post, but it's been a few days since the last. Is it worth mentioning that Manx TT Superbike had kind of a precursor in 1976? www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=683#3110System16.com lists it for 1977, but Enterbrain's Sega Arcade History says August 1976. This seems to be pretty much the same deal as "Fonz" a few entries further up, and Moto-Cross a bit downwards. Both are not listed in the book, so they might have been US versions of the same machine. Were Sega games engineered in the US or Japan at that time? Since Wikipedia is really sketchy on Sega's early years, what's the go-to online source for this stuff?

This gave me eye cancer Have to say... it reminds me of my unlucky mac owning classmates showing off their awful black and white "graphics" with "Dark Castle". Going home and playing Monster Land made me so sad for them. Mac was NOT synonimous with games in my eighties childhood. Although that pic is so awful, it is hyterical. Looks like a parody. Racing Hero's excellence cannot be understated. It really plays like a dream, with exact controls. Controls perfectly, and plays incredibly well in Mame with an analogic stick/triggers. MD Super Hang-on's career mode was great. Like Super Monaco, it was really fun. But the arcade mode itself is much better in SHO. Enduro Racer is an interesting trivia game, but honestly it simply does not have a lot in common with Hang-On gameplay-wise. The isometric SMS game is pretty good, but again no connection to Hang-On.
