There was a video store named Crossroads in my area once. It closed down, but years before it did, I had searched its bargain bin and found the bestest thing: A Game Players Gametape.
Basically, the tape was a recording of someone playing video games while a narrator gave us tips. The tape I had featured Robocop and Astyanax, among others I can't quite recall, in which the narrator would fail miserably at taking his own advice.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else remembered these things and knew where I could download clips from them. TSR's NES Archive had reviews and sound clips for a few (no longer functional, I believe) but I want more!
And also I was wondering... I have a microphone, an emulator, and Virtualdub. Think I could make my own "Gametape"?

I'm pretty sure I have a Gamepro and a Game Players tape lying around somewhere, if not here then at my parent's house. I do have some promo Sega Master System tapes from WAAAAY back in the day that just showed some guy playing games.
Unfortunately my capture card has a tendency to screw up sound syncing so I don't think I can record it.

I only owned a few tapes that were game related (both of which were free Nintendo Power preview videos - I remember getting one for Diddy Kong Racing, and another for Jet Force Gemini). I have a video recording rig setup hooked up to my computer (Hauppauge WinTV USB2 with a cheap Sony VCR, and a copy of Virtualdub for good measure). I could "archive" the tapes...if I could find them, and if they aren't already gone.

I just bought a cheapo 30 FPS video card, because I have a special tape coming my way...I also have a N64 tape that I bought a while back. There was another available that I passed up (the Jet Force Gemini one, I think).

I've got a great old one (GamePlayer's Magazine?) featuring Konami games. The Bayou Billy segment is the best: "Get these guys in the corner and keep beating them with the ugly stick 'til they're dead". I always imagined what hearing that at 8 years old would have done to me.

No but I remember Game Tapes that took forever to load like a 32K game on my old Radio Shack Computer.
You complain about load times now.......we're lucky

Yeah I have one in the house here that was done by a UK magazine called NMS for Street Fighter 2 on the SNES. It was at the height of the Street Fighter craze and I remember the biggest shock was hearing the reviewers voices for the first time!

Though quite different, this reminds quite a bit of good ol' Video Power (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Power). I've never seen these gametapes though...they sound like instant classics

The Starfox64 tape given out by Nintendo Power is made of win. It actually has a plot kind. Two guys(1 from Sony, 1 from Sega) kidnap some Nintendo employee and force him to tell them about Starfox 64 and the Rumble Pack. When he doesnt cooperate, they threaten to torture a Mario doll by putting it's head in a vise. It's hilarious.
I also have a Donkey Kong Country promo video where the host does a short tour of NoA. Cool stuff.

The gametapes I have are:
Game Player's (Vol. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14) Secret Video Games Vol. 1 (by the U.S. National Video Game team) Skip Rogers' Score more Points (both tapes)
BTW, I have two questions about the Game Player's GameTapes:
1) How many tapes in the series were there?
2) Also, does anyone know which tape in the series contained Double Dragon, Super Mario Bros., Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, and Ninja Gaiden?
