Hey, so i'm still working on my kind of crazy RPG/shooter cross and will probably be working on it until early middle of next year: But I need some more inspiration.
If oyu can reccomend any good games, I don't care the systema s long as it's in the NES-PSX eras and anythign inbetween. Just put what system it's for - I've been playing alot of overhead shooters these days and they all get tiresome

At the end of the PSX era, you did have the debute of the Dreamcast which did have the oh so wonderful and amazing Ikaruga. Rocket Knight Adventures and Gunstar Heroes had some fun shooting levels/segments, but the games as a whole are more shooter/platformer types. Also for the Geneis, Gaiares is fairly innovative as far as shooters go and is a hard SOB to beat too. I've never played it, but the game Steel Empire (For the Genesis too) always intreagued me. I enjoyed Jackal, Heavy Barrel, and Iron Tank for the NES. Finally, I would put in a word for the most underrated classic NES shooter and a personal favorite: Gyruss with its great gameplay and kick-ass soundtrack for the day and age (Bach rules!) Going into the HG 101 pages, checking out the Darius or Cho-Aniki might offer some inspiration (though I shudder to think of what nature: half naked, body-building fish?)

The PC shooter Tyrian (you can find Tyrian 2000 as freeware on the net). It appears to be a Zanac-esque shooter at first, but the Full Game mode lets you purchase ship upgrades and such. Then there's the secret ships like the Super Carrot.

Not sure what you're looking for... could be anything from Fantasy Zone to any action game with upgradable weaponry.

I'm less looking for overhead shooters (Because i've been playing the shit out of commando and a few others) And looking for 2d - sidescrollers and beatemups.

There's one for the GBA that's an actual RPG/SHooter hybrid. Star Saga or something like that.
