Remember RCR? Didn't that have like a 60 character password? Thank God that passwords weren't really needed to complete the game. Oh they totally were necessary if you sucked at the game

As annoying as passwords get, I do have a certain fondness for them, if only because they're all but eliminated from modern gaming. I also like the fact that there's the security of not worrying about randomly erasing save files. Of course, that doesn't matter if you lose your password or if you copied it wrong, but I've never really had problems with that. It's also nice to be able to instantly go to whatever part of a game that you want instead of having to keep a save file at specific points that you may want to revisit. I agree with this 100% I too am quite fond of (simple) passwords. And I hate when someone complains that a platformer has a password feature because "it makes the game easier and lifespan shorter." Well if you hate PW's in platformers and prefer to play from 1st to last level in 1 sitting, don't use PW's duh! Hell I rather have a platformer that uses either PW's or a level skip code so AFTER I beat it, I can just mess around on random levels. I always found it funny when someone wants less. I'll take more and thus have more options to toy with (i.e. play straight through or use PW's)

I also like the fact that there's the security of not worrying about randomly erasing save files. Not to mention that it eliminates worrying about the battery in games that use battery back-up dying out. This has yet to happen to me (I don't think anyway) but it always keeps me on my toes, especially with games I bought used.
