No, you're right, HP doesn't restore upon gaining a level. I could have sworn it did, but I guess it's just been too long since the last time I played this game and I didn't remember correctly.
You still want to use the Call command to group your party together during battles, though! You can deal more damage, take less, and by controlling one main party and only moving the other with Call, you can minimize the amount of random battles you have to deal with, which does save HP in the long run.

That is a really good strategy. I started doing that after you mentioned it and it makes leveling up much faster (it's awesome because like you said, there's no reduction in experience like in most games).

I tried getting into this game, but it just seemed WAY too daunting for me. The fact that everyone in your party only gets one life. No way to bring them back to life.

It's doable, but it requires a LOT of trial and error and going back to re-do on account of the resource management and the incredibly annoying status effects. I forgot how much I hated those. I'm hoping that I can get some more play time in this weekend and start drawing up some maps. Knowing where everything's at really, really helps.

Alrighty, help time! I'm fairly far in and I've done pretty well to now without much help, but I think I've reached a stump point and any help I can get would be helpful. I'll coat my questions in spoilers: A: Anyone know exactly what to do with the Ruby and Jade rings? The frescoes are somewhat obscure in their purpose.
B: I found two blue candles: One in a room with a massive amount of mice, and another in one of those ice slide rooms with the corpses at the bottom. I'm pretty sure I need a third one for that trio of statues, but I'm not sure where to find it.
C: Anyone recall exactly how to get past the short man saying he's acting on Ichirou's orders?

IIRC I think you answered your own questions ;p.

Ok, I want to thank you because there's another major advantage to "partying up". If you use a tonic out of battle, it only heals the party that you're controlling - the others are out of luck. But if you use the call command to join up, then use a tonic in battle, it will heal your full party! Considering the tonics are a limited commodity this is awesome! So in short, like Feynman said, keep your parties together, because it makes the game a LOT easier!

IIRC I think you answered your own questions ;p. Unfortunately, I thought I had the idea that giving either of the rings to the goblin servant would work (as per a fresco hint), but the little turd didn't take either of them. I still don't know how to use the rings, how to get past him, or where the third blue candle is and I'm driving myself batty attempting to make any headway in the area past the veranda. Then again, I seem to be farther ahead than most people, so I may break from the game for a few days until I can refocus my brain or I receive any hints. Until then, the least I can do is throw out more tips: -There are a few events where you need to use prayer points (a couple involving armor and one involving a shovel), but keep in mind you don't have to use a maximum amount, only about 30 or so. If you play conservatively like I do, deliberately try to press A when the prayer bar is only halfway up or so. -For some reason, only males can wield axes and only females can use spears. All other weapons are up for grabs, though. -Make sure you hold onto the shovel after you use it for its original purpose. Someone will make use of it to destroy a really large fire later. -Bows make ropes completely obsolete. -You can't push those statues out on the veranda unless you read the diary. I dunno how that logic works, but it is what it is. -Wraiths and skeletons can blow your party members away to random areas. Beware!

Thanks for the tip on the shovel, I just got past that part and I'd hate to have to backtrack.
As for axes, that's only true for one type as far as I've seen - guys can't use rune spear, and girls can't use rune ax. I was able to equip Emi with the heavy ax though.

Okay, NOW I figured out what was up with the thing I was stuck on. You need to make sure that the person who directly speaks to the servant is ALSO the one who has both rings. Then you have to use each and utilize some prayer points to pass the servant. Kinda stupid that it actually MATTERS who's holding the rings since character specificity has never been a problem up to now, but oh well.

I'm at the part after that (the servant) where you have to find the slides. I've found every one of them but the one of Mamiya. I'll have to backtrack because I'm guessing it's another door that opens up with the Gold Key that I missed.
One of the things that I got hung up on was the possibility of dying, so I was paranoid about losing health and stuff. At this point in the game, though, I haven't really given a crap if anyone gets injured, and even do stuff I'm not supposed to like walk through thorns or whatever (I missed the place where you could put a log, making the gloves totally useless). So to those of you getting discouraged, don't give up hope. If anything, grind a lot at the beginning on the weak enemies until you're about Level 3, then start fighting zombies and shit until you're about 4 or 5. At that point, once someone gets low enough to use a tonic, go ahead. At that point you'll have enough HP to carry you a long time without fear. I think at this point the game (I'm at Level 17 for most people) I've used only three tonics in total.

I can give you the location of the three slides! 1: Right in the cave basement past the fire place, likely the obvious one. 2: The door adjacent to the projector room which leads you outside. You can now push those statues, but you'll have to walk past a bramble patch to get it. You could bring back the gloves from the lake area with you want, but I just bolded through it. 3: A door for the gold key in the right dark hallway (the area where you yanked the spear from one suit of armor and put it on the other). You'll get assaulted by an ice trap which will drain your life no matter what, so conduct your business quickly. And yes, you will need to pray once the three slides are together. You need a LOT of points for this one to work. ADD: I should note I've beaten the game, so if anyone has any questions, I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Just a heads up on the movie streaming. It's happening this Friday, ~10:30 PM ET. You can participate by way of the chat box. Which you should do, because I can only think of four things to say about this movie.
I think Joestar is gonna help me talk over the movie. Who knows what other HG101 luminaries will show up?
PS - Something resembling an Aquaria podcast is still on the way. We probably won't be able to do the interview part in time for it, though. Maybe we'll make that a separate special episode later. GC9X Gaiden S-Class.

GC9X Gaiden S-Class. Yeah, it's been years since I saw the movie so I'll have to do my best to improv. It's worth watching for the gore effects, but the beginning half is SLOOOOOOOOOOW so expect a lot of bad jokes on my part and/or reading your comments.

To those who have beaten the game, are there any items you can tell me definitely aren't needed anymore after a certain point? I feel like I'm lugging around stuff that won't get used again...
