though I'll agree DMC3 was controller-busting crap. No it wasn't.

The way you had to rely on Devil Trigger in DMC1 in order to deal any significant damage to the bosses was the main reason why I didn't like it. I mean, if Dante is so awesome, he wouldn't even use it at all unless he needed to fly, right? Someone forgot to mention Ikaruga. And Shoot the Bullet, although that came on the PC at the end of 2005, so I don't know if you guys consider that one "current gen" or not. Immaterial and Missing Power is current gen though. It's kind of hard to tell what makes IaMP so special from that video, and I'll simply say that it keeps it traditional enough so Guilty Gear players are familiar enough with the engine while simultaneously making them think in a completely different way in attacking their opponents. Oh yeah, Outrun 2.

Ikaruga appeared on Dreamcast first, and while I don't consider DC last generation, apperantly it doesn't count. Anyway, most shmups aren't remembered by non shmup fans.

Anyway, most shmups aren't remembered by non shmup fans. I'm giving you one that's an exception to that statement. The latter was in there because it's just about as unique as the former, except much more recent.
