I found out why they were shut down. they were selling Modded units for European sale. Which is illegal.

If that is indeed the case, link proof please, and yes that would be questionable legal territory.

I remember reading that Lik Sang was sued some years ago because they were selling mod chips, but I've not heard anything about them selling modded units. Either way, this present case everyone is talking about is the sale of regular, unmodded JP units in the EU, as far as all the news stories go.
If the modded unit sale was the reason, I think Sony would use that as the reason for their suit, not voltage differences between Japan and Europe.

If that is indeed the case, link proof please, and yes that would be questionable legal territory. if you look at the PSP listing (they're still up) it mentions it comes with something that converts it. They also while sony could care less sold Modded Dreamcasts. from Lik Sang themselves # Sony's new Handheld System # 16:9 Widescreen TFT LCD # Wi-Fi Wireless LAN # Universal Media Disc (UMD) Standard # On Screen Languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Japanese # Region Free for games (all games work on any PSP worldwide and vice versa) # Import friendly AC Adapter that works worldwide (100-240V)If lik-sang sold it with out that adapter they'd be fine. But I did read somewhere that they had to modify the inside to get it to work. They did sell several PSP mods though.

That doesn't really seem like they're doing very much illegal, if the entire fuss was based around the AC adapter then I'm sure they could have likely got around it but simply dropping it, as I said I'd rather some concrete proof as to what they did that was illegal other then importing/exporting PSP/PS3. I'm not saying they weren't doing something illegal but I refuse to damn them until I more information.
Also I own one of those modded DCs and if you own a DC you too could it doesn't even need anything to be changed you just have to recalibrate the internal laser. Which is done with a knib inside the DC that was provided by Sega.

My DC Was modded and if you dig back in the forums it's dead.........it died right after I used the ps2 to dreamcast Adapters I BOUGHT FROM LIK SANG
Anybody who might worry that Play-Asia is next don't need to be Right from Play-Asia's Legal Department
Hi John, thank you for contacting Play-Asia.com. We cannot predict anythings. However, everythings are alright so far. SONY only imposed shipping limitations of PSP to EU. We also followed the restrictions about that in the past. In case of any further question please do not hesitate to contact us again. Best regards, Michelle Play-Asia.com
Essentally they've complied with everything Sony asks them to do and if Sony gets Money from sales at play asia we don't need to worry.

I was gonna get a PS3 and a Sony Vaio laptop. But reading about all this and the fact that I never liked Sony's "propietary everything" policies (I hate Apple) looks like I'm gonna end up getting a used (maybe even modded) console, and BlameTheControlpad.com will be delivered to you directly from a Dell or IBM brand new laptop. Something to think about: maybe Sony can save itself from bankruptcy by discreetly allowing and encouraging modding... it helped Microsoft a lot during the last console generation. It would be delightfully ironic indeed...

What about Yesasia? I often see gamers perfer Play-Asia or Lik-Sang over Yesasia, is there a particular reason why this is? I find, on average, that Yesasia's prices on games are lower and offers free shipping unlike Play-Asia.
Speaking of imports, are a lot of you out there import gamers? I have access to buying things from Japan, and for those of you having trouble getting imports...maybe we can work something out? Although it's hard to beat the prices from online stores, I may be able to get rare or used games not listed on Ebay. Just throwing this out there for anyone interested.

If you want DVDs or music Go with Yes asia. It would be delightfully ironic indeed... Making their systems region free for games prevent the need for modding. What's making me really mad? That I for once took Sony's side on this matter and automatically got labeled a fanboy. All I own is a PSP My gamecube and XBOX are my systems of choice (only becuase my dreamcast is out of commision)

Sucks about your dreamcast Michiyoyoshiku, that kind of experience could make you mad but I don't know, it's more then likely bad luck on the third party products.
I think we can all agree though, Sony will probably feel negative reprecussions with this decison.

even if it's not their fault. Everybody wants to bring sony down since they're acting PER-IT-EE cocky with the ps3.
plenty of other import shops though.

I don't especially understand the AC adapter problem. I needed to get a different adapter and parts in order to play my Turbo Duo R, but I never had to actually modify the system.

I used Lik-Sang two times, one for that four-controller adapter, which rocks my box; and a handful of games that never (I thought) could've made it here: Megaman ZX, Jump Superstars and Brain Training.

It's not the fact their isn't more, it's more the precedent that this sets.
