-Apparently comedian/actor Robin Williams loved the NES games so much he named his daughter Zelda
-One Japanese Zelda fan burnt down someone's house in rage because Zelda III sold out before he could manage to get a copy
-In an interview Miyamoto explained that the JP to US conversion of Zelda III had used up all 8 megabits of memory and the english text wasn't yet punched in. So they were going to expand it to 9 megs (what a weird count). But they wouldn't use all the space on the extra megabit just for the text, so were planning to incorporate a few spare ideas left out of Zelda 1 to fill up the rest. In the end, they were able to fit the English version onto 8 megabits, thus any ideas like mentioned went out the window
Wonder what the spare ideas from the original were.

I never really got into Zelda. I like several games that have borrowed from it, like Crystalis. Should I have put more time into that series? What exactly is that series appeal? How do it's NES, SNES, GB and GBC installments stand up to other action adventure games? Do they get better after you play them a while? Because I played LoZ for NES and was not as wowed as everybody seems to be, and disliked Zelda 2 for NES also, which is why I have avoided playing it's other sequels.

Though I myself have yet to play it, everyone tells me Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES, AKA Zelda III) is an absolute GEM MASTERPIECE. One of these days I'll certainly get to it. It is said to be very easy as well, so it'd be perfect for beginners like you and me (as I haven't really played the NES versions too much)
Play LTTP and see if that won't do the trick.

I've never really been a huge Zelda fan. They're more focused on puzzles than action, which is why I prefer other similar games like Ys, Okami, or pretty much any of the SNES Enix RPGs. Its distant cousin, Metroid, is far more interesting.
Ocarina of Time had an immensely dull world populated by ugly, ugly characters. Wind Waker, despite the long stretches of sailing, was much better, and probably my favorite non-Zelda 2 games of the series.

Personally my favorites tend to be the NES Zeldas, followed by the N64 ones. Zelda 3: A Link to the Past was always overrated, IMO, and was easily overshadowed by so-called "knockoffs" like Landstalker and Crusader of Centy.

A Link to the Past is the end all be all for Zelda, with the original and all of the GB versions coming next. Everything was just perfectly right in that game. Zelda II might as well be from a different series. People harped on Ys III for jumping the shark, but at least it was a fun diversion.
Ocarina of Time still remains the best 3D Zelda. Twilight Princess might change that, but I will say that I agree with Discoalucard in that the puzzle-centric gameplay has grown tired for me. Hate to say it, but it's true. I still haven't finished Windwaker.
Zelda looks positively arcane in the face of Okami. I feel like I am starting to sound like a broken record, but the game really is the best PS2 game ever. Shadow of the Colossus gives it some strong competition, but Okami is truly a masterpiece. Anyone and everyone on this board who owns a PS2 should DEFINITELY buy it ASAP as a mission to support good ideas when they come.

You were able to use the microphone in the famicom controller to instantly kill the rabbit monsters in the original LoZ. Hence the hint about certain monsters hating loud noises. That's why the hint never made sense when it was translated to Engrish.

Like most zelda fans, I find OOT and LTTP to be the best in the seires. In my opinion they have the best puzzles, best boss fights, best dungeons and best music. Both were advance for their time too: LTTP with his interactive world and OOT with his 3D world and the lock on system.
But I need to play Majora's Mask, I heard it's unique and have some weird designs.

I used to play the heck ouf of the original, and it wasn't for years until I beat the second quest. I really enjoyed the second one back in the day (much for the same reasons I really enjoyed Ys III), but nowdays, not quite so much.
Link to the Past is a superior game and despite that I still have a sentimental preference for the original over it. Despite all that, Ocarina of Time was the one Zelda game that just sucked me in. One of my friends in HS loaned me his N64 to play it and I was completely absorbed into the game. There was an open, immersive quality about it that allowed one to feel and explore Hyrule. There was a strong puzzle element, but it never gave me too much trouble (at least until the Shadow Temple), and I enjoyed the combat system. Superior gameplay, epic scope, and the like makes is one of my favorite games.

My First Zelda game was Zelda: OoT for N64, Me and my family played it together trying to get passed all the puzzles. I remember when we were looking at the back of the box and trying to figure out why the hell there were carrots over the horses head, then my dad came up with a idea where you had to collect carrots, but there wernt any in the game. Its an easy game and when you play it you should at least get passed the forest temple, easy level. Majoras Mask is fun but you have only 3 days to do stuff but you can use the Ocarina to go back its alright , you get diffrent masks and can change into a goron with goron mask a zora with zora mask a deku with deku mask and a ghetto verson of adlut link called Feirce Deity, but you can only use it in a boss battle, but there is a way to cheat. Wind Waker is fun but the Sailing kills me, it makes the game way to boring, and on top of that you have to go around doing tedious tasks finding peices of maps etc. etc. i'll get around to beating it some day... Havent played Minish Cap but I have played Links Awakening, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, I have beaten LA but havent gotten around to Ages, I lost my seasons cartrige and the game doesnt save Overall they are fun games. as for trivia... this might be one ever one knows so please dont get mad : ) -Ocarina of Time was orriginaly supposed to be a 3D remake of A Link to the Past, but Miyamoto wanted to create something else, all that is left of the 3D Link to the past is this trailer*. It also has some left overs in the Japanese verson such as two usable medallions (à la A Link to the Past) called the Wind and Ice Medallions. To get those you must use a game enhancer like Gameshark, *TRAILER* www.youtube.com/watch?v=JT2KE8qFh5A

Ocarina of Time was never going to be a 3D remake of ALTtP. It might have (or had) similar stuff, but that's just because every Zelda reuses stuff from the previous one. Just like most games.

I'm a huge Zelda fan and I own them all with the exception of Minish Cap (which I plan to buy but haven't gotten around to it). The puzzles are a great part of what makes this series so good. I think it was one of the first series to have bosses that simply weren't bigger enemies you slashed at constantly but were more like living puzzles. They all have their own weaknesses and most require a special item to kill them. I also love the repetition in the series believe it or not. Every game I think "Where are all of the magic bottles?" or "I wonder how the boomerang is going to work in this one." The series is something I've enjoyed since the very beginning, as my brother bought the first one sometime around my birth in 1986. Though I don't like Majora's Mask very much (never could get into it) and Zeld II is frustrating as balls, almost every other one has been great (please don't throw those crappy Phillips CDI games at me). I'm a big fan of Four Swords for the GC as a multiplayer game that doesn't really get the attention it deserves. Also, I think Wind Waker had the potential to be the best in the series due to its unique artstyle, tight controls, and great lock-on battle system. It's a shame there weren't more dungeons or things to do in the game to make it my favorite. That's why I'm hoping greatness for Twilight Princess since it has the same physics engine and battle system and hopfully the Wii version will be sweet. Otherwise my favorites are much like everyone else: Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, and Ocarina of Time.
