I know this is a video games forum not movies, but I have a question about a movie sound effects. Hollywood movies often re-use sound effects. These are stock sound effects that can be heard in many different movies, a famous example is the "Wilhelm Scream"I think I've found another sound effect that reused in many movies. It kind of sounds like a voice saying "shkaw", I've taken a sample of the effect from Event Horizon (1997), listen to it here: shkaw.mp3 (mp3, 236kb)I'm positive I've also heard it in other movies as well, probably also from the 90s. Does anyone recognise it, or know any other movies that feature it? Could be a new "Wilhelm Scream"

The Castle Thunder sound effect, as introduced in 1931's Frankenstein. You may have also heard it in so many Disney films and shorts, up until about the 1990's.

Another overused scream, the "Howie Long" scream, named for its use in Broken Arrow, played when Howie Long dies.
It sounds nothing like a scream.

Someone at mobygames was kind enough to reply to my question. Seems it's videogame related after all; It's the "icon of sin spawn cube" sound effect from Doom II ( youtube video)

Pretty much every sound effect in Daggerfall. Most notably the creaky door opening and the rat squeaking. Every time I hear that creaky door in a movie I have to laugh.

There are a lot of these that are prevalent mainly in Amiga games, but many also show up in DOS shareware games and beyond. - Orchestra hits. There are like three variants of this, but all three seem to be from the Amiga SoundTracker days. Electro Man uses one as a gunshot. - "Aww yeah!" or "Check dis out!" - Heard in a lot of Amiga music, but "Aww yeah!" also appears as a random sound effect in the freeware shmup, "The Last Eicchof"; both of these are in Matt Furniss' loader song for The Spy Who Loved Me (presumably the voice saying "Hit it!" is him, though I haven't any proof for that). - There are a number of these from the Amiga days that I refer to as the "Software Visions collection" due to them appearing in the shareware puzzler, Apocalypse Abyss, as well as a disproportionately high number of MegaZeux games (both games were by Software Visions). Just to name a bunch: an evil voice saying "Ha ha ha!", a number of explosion sounds, and a lot of SoundTracker instruments repurposed as sound effects (from xylophones to synth brass).

One that gets used a lot but I have no idea what it's actually called.
That Japanese Kabuki "ye-oooh" noise. You know the one.

An old favorite of mine is this old, anime-exclusive one that I think originated in Mobile Suit Gundam. It's pretty hard to write out; it's this sorta high-pitched noise I can only describe as being sorta "electro-mechanical". Kinda a "Eeyo-OOOY" ("Eeyo-oooy? I'll be in the basement!"). It was used in various mecha works until the early 2000s, where it seems to have been retired. It also showed up in Virtual On. Oddly, despite the fact that the sound could be anything, I always heard it in conjunction with a giant robot moving its arms, like for aiming its rifle or something. Even the aforementioned Virtual On case happens when Temjin throws its grenade. Oh, found it!

Another overused scream, the "Howie Long" scream, named for its use in Broken Arrow, played when Howie Long dies. It sounds nothing like a scream. There have been some examples prior to said movie, though. The intro to Stellar Fire (Sega CD, 1993) has it, for instance. There's also the AAAH! Real Monsters intro that has it, and that started in '93, '94, I think?

Oh, another one that's always kinda creeped my out; it's this weird, high-pitched woman's voice saying something I can't quite make out. You can hear it at about 2:36 into this Einhander video; it was the first place I ever heard it, in fact.
