I don't sleep with music on. I dunno why, but it just never occurred to me that that's the best way to fall asleep.
But as for game music that mellows me, I tend to go for piano arrangements. Classical piano, jazz piano, game music done in piano and all that.
Okami Piano Arrange is one of my faves.

I always listen to video game music while I sleep/study. Honestly, I can list pages and pages of YouTube links. But I don't have much time so I'll mention only a few for now. 'Between the Winds' from the first Baten Kaitos game: youtu.be/MRL1yfxJrXA'A Closed Off Village' from Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core: youtu.be/lzsDHr2s2x8'In the Gloomy Darkness' from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: youtu.be/J5Hqwu1dhR8'Thousand Year Slumber of the Blastia' from Tales of Vesperia: youtu.be/nduoukKhicU'Sanitation Department' from Revelations Persona: youtu.be/0xzLR0bPmqM'Chiaki' from Shin Megami Tensei III: youtu.be/q-LWzGYuMqE'A Deus' from Grandia II: youtu.be/87BfwguMSVsOkay, that should do for the time being. You can count on me returning to add more sometime soon lol.

Lately, while I'm working I've been listening to the Secret of Mana soundtracks. The newer (2012) Secret of Mana Genesis album is a nice fresh update to the original soundtrack, but with real instruments.
And I've been getting a real kick out of the Secret of Mana+ (plus) album. It's one full album track mix, but it's very interesting to listen to since Hiroki Kikuta went more electronic/sampling with it, given that it was 1993 and electronic music wasn't so widespread as it is now. I really like the more spacy ambient parts, then how it transitions to more upbeat high-energy stuff.

Earthbound (SNES) has some really great music. A lot of you have named some of my favorites but another great one is the ending music to Metal Gear on the NES. Oh and you can't forget the Christmas music on Blue Stinger!
