I was well aware of Tsuyoshi Sekito's work with Square/Square-Enix (where he basically acted as Kenji Ito 2.0), but I had no idea that before that, he'd worked for Konami, involved partially in the soundtracks for Motocross Maniax and Space Manbow, among other games.

Even as something of a Hitoshi Sakimoto fanboy, it caught me by surprise to learn that he'd worked on Genesis games before getting famous for the Ogre Battle series. Specifically, Devilish and - of all the things! - Gauntlet IV.

My brother used to listen to this composer called Yousuke Yasui for a while. At the same time, I was listening to the Technictix/Technic Beat soundtrack and ended up finding out about the whole Arika/SuperSweep gang, which happened to include him. I still think that was a really weird coincidence, considering how obscure the source material was.

A new album by Mitsuhiko Izumi has a disc filled soley with tons of his Konami arcade music. It turns out he made "Fire Scramble" from Gradius III.

Actually it's kinda of funny how this ties into my post; Yousuke Yasui has been a favorite of mine for a while now, but only recently did I find out that he worked on Mega Man Network Transmission, a game that I've loved for a super long time. Kinda funny how there's that link between one of my previous favorite games and my current all-time favorite game, Eschatos. :]

Jesper Kyd made a couple songs for a Genesis soccer game It's also the only good stuff about the game. ...well, that, and their writing-around-trademarks name for Maradona, Donadona. It's dumb.

Michiru Yamane worked on Konami's Asterix arcade game. Damn.
While I was never unaware of the connection, the contrast in style between Akira Yamaoka's output for Silent Hill and Beatmania is pretty stunning.

Yoko Kanno is the composer that had the most impact to me because her work in Cowboy Bebop got me hooked into an entire music genre, jazz. I know she worked on all kinds of anime and explored diverse musical range, but I only recently discovered, decades after playing the games, that she did Uncharted Waters 1 and 2 (and the first few Nobunaga Ambition and Romance of Three Kingdoms too). So of course I sought out the re-arranged soundtracks, and they were really good!
