.... within the following limits:
1) No RPGs. As of the third week of October (that would be last month) I am officially on an RPG purge period, since they're practically the only thing I've played for the last seven or eight years and I feel I need something else.
2) No "franchise" games--that is, no Marios or Zeldas or Metroids or Resident Evils or other series with 50+ installments. Relatively recent franchises are a different matter, as are games based on television and anime as long as they stand sufficiently on their own.
3) I'm particularly looking for simple games--games I can just pick up and play without having to follow some complicated storyline or work through a steep learning curve. Games I can just enjoy. I'm willing to try games with deep thematic elements but I'm not into games with really complicated controls/play mechanics right now.

Ikaruga is FANTASTIC...assuming you don't already own the Dreamcast version, which never came to America.

Eternal Darkness is very good. I also recomend Killer7 (if you dont already own it). Geist is the thinking mans FPS, awesome game by the way. Basicly all the games I have so far for GC are Geist, Resident Evil 4, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil 0, Legend of Zelda WW, James Bond Agent Under Fire (controls SUCK), Metroid Prime, Killer7, Star Fox Adventures, Paper Mario, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, so I realy dont have that much knowlege on the cube since I got one in march. Have you ever tried GUN or the True Crime games? I got TC:LA for Xbox and its alright, but GUN is awesome.

Nope, never tried Gun or True Crime... I'm not a big fan of crime-themed games but if it fits my criteria I'll try it. Does GUN require a lightgun?
@papersquadpatrol I don't own a Dreamcast. Actually, while we're at it, the only current-gen console I own is the 'Cube. I used to own a PS2, but it broke, and I was never all that interested in the X-Box (that might change soon though).

Chibi Robo is much better than I expected, though it takes awhile to pick up.
Batallion Wars is a mess but a lot of fun.

Second Sight. Controls can be a little confusing at times, but it's an enjoyable game from the folks at Free Radical.

Second Sight is avaliable on Xbox, PS2 and PC as well though but I guess he didn't ask for exclusives so wooo.

I recommended it because he said the Cube is the only current-gen console he owns.

Pikmin is quite nice little strategy game. I found it rather refreshing, and it wasn't a huge commitment. The sequel is supposed to be even better, but I haven't bothered to pick it up.
If it says anything, Pikmin is one of like... 2 GameCube games I've actually completed. (The other being Baten Kaitos, an RPG.)

Must have missed in his post Weasel..still can't find it but I'm not going to argue, I'd never argue with reccomending Second Sight to someone fine fine game and the sniper rifle is very nicely done..there aren't enough decent psyhic games anymore or ever,

Beyond Good and Evil is a great, though short, Zelda-ish adventure game with some well-implemented stealth and photography elements. Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 are both excellent hardcore action games with a great blend of the old and new school.
