If you are collector of games then buy them, if you don't care about collecting then rent them, pirate them or download them

I am a filthy pirate. My reasoning for pirating most games is that the games I obtain do not have playable demos, and I am unable to try them otherwise. Sometimes I will buy games after pirating them (MOH: Pacific Assault, Vampire: Bloodlines, and Deus Ex 2). Though these days, it's not just the lack of demos that drives me to piracy - it's crappy demos. The best example: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Only two levels, which take roughly 10 minutes to complete. That's not enough time to get a feel for the game, or even give me an opinion over whether I should spend fifty bucks on it.

If video game reviewers would do their jobs correctly, we wouldn't need demos really. Having said that, I don't pirate games. I won't buy a game on a whim unless it's $30 or less. With full priced games, I will lurk around on message boards and read reviews until I get an idea of what the game is like. i get frustrated easily with little things, so there are very few games I will purchase. I really have no need to pirate games, because I'm happy with just a handful to play through. I also have other hobbies of course, so it's not like I need to be playing a new game every day. So anyway, in pretty much every situation I would suggest buying over pirating.
