I'm split on the OSTs because the Sega CD version has very noticeable sound degradation due to being low quality streamed PCM. The 32-bit versions are played off their consoles' sound chips, and the instrumentation isn't quite as good, but at the same time they don't have that low bitrate sound of the 16-bit one. There was a soundtrack CD that had some of the Sega CD tracks in high quality, but not all of them...it was missing the battle theme, which I love.
Even though it's weird that a remake cuts content rather than adds it, I don't think the stuff they removed makes too much of a difference.

see at the time i kinda agreed, but some distance made me feel like changing Ghaleon's motives made things...weird. it'd still probably tell someone new to the series to play those first, they're great updates, but i wonder how much it'd bother me now.

Hoping to get through the Sega CD games at some point this year and then pretend the rest (like the Lufia sequels) just never happened.

I've only played the playstation remakes (and walking school), but Lunar 1 and 2 are up there with my favorite RPGs. I've been meaning to play the Sega CD games too but keep getting distracted by other stuff.

You know, I knew about the Lunatic Festival/Parade CDs since forever but I didn't realize that they had some arranged music on them too. I remember when I was in high school, downloading low bitrate MP3s from whatever site had them, I found this version of the Lunar Silver Star Story battle theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXMf3YYNZX8This was before the PS1 version came out here and I was blown away by it, so I was pretty disappointed by how it actually sounded in game. The Saturn one isn't great either; the PSP one is an improvement but not gigantic. I also found the Lunar 2 battle theme, which is the closest to the "original" Sega CD one. It sounds slightly different, the bassline is more pronounced and other slight synth changes. Sega CD: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CprABrE4InQLunatic Festival: www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9jglTMdBjs

Thanks for sharing this, I've always liked the music in the Sega CD versions, even though I haven't played those versions yet.
