www.hardcoregaming101.net/youkaiclub/youkaiclub.htmJaleco made a lot of really average games. Here's another one of them, a Famicom action-platformer with some resemblance to Castlevania, though without any of the artistry. It's not half bad though, since it has some cool powers and some non-linear elements.

I can't quite say because I didn't play enough of the game myself, but I think it's saying that the password is located by the top score after completing stage 1 or 2 - I don't think you actually have to get a top score. Then, if you hold down the start button for four seconds (either on the title screen or on the screen where it displays the level name), then you can reach the password entry screen. It's worth a shot!

I did like this game overal. 8 eyes too.
Matou no Houkai should probably be covered as well though because of how similar it feels to Castlevania plus the really confusing stage warping system and the incredibly short timer for the end of the game boss rush.

I wrote up reviews for 8 Eyes and Matou no Houkai for the Castlevania book, but since they were just a single page each, they were very short, and not really appropriate for posting on the site.

It's worth a shot! A four-button combination is displayed at the lower left of the screen at the end of the stage. Press it at the stage start/map screen.
