Crud. I have the digital version but was planning to get a hard copy over the holidays. So much for that idea.

Had to take the book off sale at the request of Konami. Going to try to work something out! It's nice you're being sociable, but if they have no real legal grounds and this isn't a C&D, then...

Congratulations, Konami. You are now worse than Capcom.

Nah, at least Konami has IIDX.
They are bigger jerks, though.

I can't remember the specifics, but did they ever issue you a C&D directly about the Metal Gear articles a couple years back?
Anyway this is really tacky and cynical of them to do, and it's further proof that the Konami we loved is dead.

The problem they had was the script from MGS2 and Ghost Babel. It came from Konami Japan and they went right to the host rather than contacting me directly. C&D's don't joke around. Anyway, even though it's odd for a company to care about scripts for ten year old games, it's still technically their IP and they're allowed to defend it, so we had to comply. This is totally different though, I wasn't required to take it down but I did in hopes in coming to some kind of agreement. I want to do more Konami volumes and I'd rather work together than butt heads with them every time.

I really hope they'll be reasonable about this, they've got nothing to lose by letting you publish the books.

That's a load of shit. No matter how many times I see companies force the death of labor-of-love fan projects (that can really only do the IPs good) I can never get used to it. See, normally, I love seeing fan-projects get slapped down (because I hate the idea of "fan games" overwriting actual company-developed canon when said fans start pushing stupid theories and overpowering their favorite characters at the expense of others, etc...) But since this does nothing of the sort (and is nothing of the sort), I don't really see how it's damaging the IP at all (though I do understand if they don't protect it, they lost it, still, this doesn't seem harmful).

They figure that they could something lie this officially, so why let Kurt have that money? Of course that's not likely, and they might not see it wise to even let him share money, because now he still has the rights. So, they tell hi to pack it in, and they still can potentially make that money.

This really sucks high time. I wonder if the same will happen to "The Anatomy of Castlevania", which I hope not.

Congratulations, Konami. You are now worse than Capcom. Dude, was it any question? Capcom has hit some stumbling blocks but they're nowhere near as bad as Konami, save for KojiPro (who I like to think of their as their own totally separate company at this point) Konami has nothing anymore, not a thing, worthless does even begin to describe that sinking ship of a company.

I know there are some who dislike Jim Sterling but his points in his video on Konami are still just as spot on today as when they were made: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g1xMAPG8IkIt's fucking astonishing that Konami's sole interaction with its fans is to tell them to stop. Browsing NeoGaf I've seen a community manager from there saying that they're trying to turn PR stuff around... but when it's this shit and blacklisting that come from higher ups of the Japanese branch itself, it's really hard to believe any change is happening at all. If it weren't for Silent Hills they'd be completely dead to me.
