If it weren't for Silent Hills they'd be completely dead to me. Glad to hear you woke up from that coma you went into in 2004. Unfortunately, I have some bad news about this franchise...

I know there are some who dislike Jim Sterling but his points in his video on Konami are still just as spot on today as when they were made: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g1xMAPG8IkIt's fucking astonishing that Konami's sole interaction with its fans is to tell them to stop. Browsing NeoGaf I've seen a community manager from there saying that they're trying to turn PR stuff around... but when it's this shit and blacklisting that come from higher ups of the Japanese branch itself, it's really hard to believe any change is happening at all. If it weren't for Silent Hills they'd be completely dead to me. Even better? Jim got blacklisted for reviewing games from Konami for that video. And I'm gonna have to express the same sentiment most of us had, I wish I'd gotten around to picking up that book. Even if Kurt wonders if any of us had actually bought it now... I love Castlevania. Well, loved. It's like one of my favorite things. I'm still mad what it has become, and I hope that someday Konami will realize what it has become. Although, someone has already attempted to show them the light, and he was told to get the fuck out.

Even their PR is a joke though way back in mid 2012 Konami in my local city in Royal Armories was showing up at the 3 day event about robotics and promoting their current games. This photo is what they had at the event. i533.photobucket.com/albums/ee340/Acidonia150/DSCF0865.jpgYes those game boxes are just regular dvd cases with cheaply photo copied game covers on them not real game boxes. They was also meant to have some demo units so you could test the new games yet launch of the event they was not even there. Also there treatment of the yugioh in general is bad too. The last console yugioh game on 3DS had 60% of the character story mode removed out side japan yet the game was out almost a year in Japan before rest of world which also meant its card roster was out of date by at least 8 months to the card game. To make it more insulting the game was digital only in US yet also Physical in Europe and sold at full retail price. Though only sold in a store that rarely gets any video games to begin with.

That yugioh game makes me mad because it doesn't even have multiplayer! Me, my buddy, and my brother have been waiting for this, because we don't really feel like keeping with the cards anymore.

Thing is all DS ones did and had Online multiplayer as well. Though to be honest no official yugioh game will ever beat Ygo pro for PC and android since its regularly updated and has every card ever made including the anime only ones and plays just like the official video games. Though its online multiplayer only no vs AI which is only thing official game have over it. Though the newest real life Yugioh product which is a blinged out theme deck for $50 (though you need 2 of it to make the deck work better still) in Europe removes the 70 card sleeves yet they charge more for it in Europe.

As of this morning, the book is back on sale!
Despite numerous emails and phone calls, in the end I never received a reply from Konami as to exactly what their problem was. (They only indicated it was "unlicensed", which is true, but that doesn't mean it's illegal or anything.) Since I had taken down the book voluntarily to sort things out, and I felt two and a half weeks was long enough of a time to wait, I reenabled sales. I did revise the description to indicate that it's UNOFFICIAL AND UNAUTHORIZED, plus there's a label on the cover now that indicates the same.

Out of spite I think the next books should be about Lifeline and CyGirls.

By the way, I was just reading through this and was trying to find a copy of Spritesoft's Vampire (the last clone mentioned in the book). A link to the dev site is provided, and the page for Vampire does have the WORD "Download" as though it was meant to be a link... but it's not a link. Any ideas where I could find this?

I actually had to dig through my old computer's files to find a copy of it, as he seems to have taken it down from his site several years? It's a slightly older version (0.4 I think, instead of 0.5) so that's the one I wrote about.
I know I uploaded it somewhere but I can't remember where. I do remember posting a link to it in a thread on the Castlevania Dungeon forum asking about it. I'm not at home ATM so I can't access it, but if you do a Google search or rifle through those forums you should be able to find it.
I should do a separate entry for it here on the site and offer it as a download.

That would be nice! In the interim, I'll see what I can turn up on the forums and Google. Thanks!

Fack, it looked friggin' amazing. I enjoy Castlevania, but I am not the biggest fan of the franchise, yet I just had to get a copy. It looks so slick and amazing. I know it's unfair to compare an entire book versus a two page article in a magazine, but Retro in issue 5 recently ran a collection guide on Castlevania. It was straight forward with a so-so lay-out. I'm looking at Amazon's preview shots and am blown away by the style. It's somewhat GameFan-esque. Anyway, anyone else got a copy and what are your thoughts on it? Also, to Kurt or whoever is in charge of making these books, what can we expect in the future? I would love to see one for Mega Man (there are so many MM games that it would make an excellent thick book). And I'd love to see a SNES version of Sega Classics Vol. 1. Something like SNES Classics Vol. 1. I would certainly be all over that
