www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiCVfXMuEfcFor all of you who played Suikoden 2, from Viktor with love You have waited so long to killed this bastard! (two games actually) And now the time has finally come. Such an epic battle! Such an amazing script! Such a great music! I think everyone who played Suikoden 2 (and Suikoden 1) will remember why this is one of the greatest moments in the history of gaming.

I will agree that Suikoden II has one of the most epic boss battles in an RPG. The Neclord battle is pretty great, but on my last play through, between full blown attacks from the Shield, Death Eater, and Kahn's light runes, he went down in the first round of combat. The music during that battle is probably the best combat music in the game though.
Fighting Luca Blight though, is far more challenging and satisfying. He's a contender for the most evil VG villain out there, and let's look at what you need to do to take him out:
A storm of arrows, three different boss battles with three different parties to wear him down, more arrows, and a one on one duel. Add in the fact he will most likely cripple your first two parties, good battle music, and the death cry of being "The true face of evil" and you have a seriously great Suikoden moment.

Suikoden 2 is so awesome. When I first got it I played it for eleven hours straight. This game has so many great moments. The song when you fight Neclord sounds like it could be at home in a Castlevania game.

Yes the battle with Luca Blight is great too, and yes Neclord is easy but I still think this is the best battle in game.
I really felt Viktor's anger over Neclord, and Neclord is such a badass with class. The scene before the battle is great, it made my blood boil with excitement. And then, when the music started, I just had really big smile on my face. It was gaming orgasm.

... dang. It looks awesome and all, but I've never been into Suikoden. Granted, I'm not big on RPGs in general, but it IS by Konami.
So.......... as if I didn't have enough games to consider purchasing (as I keep bringing up in my staved-off games thread which I'll probably be bumping until the end of the universe ;D), lemme ask this: What are the best games in the Suikoden series?

You must play them by the order. Really important for Suikoden 1, 2, 3. Although Suikoden 5 is connected to the rest of the series, it's not important connections, only small things for the fans so you don't have to play 1, 2, 3 for this one. Suikoden 4 is shit so don't play it.

You must play them by the order. Really important for Suikoden 1, 2, 3. Heh, cheaper said than done. As for me, I own Suikoden III (haven't played it yet) but missed out on the first two. I REALLY wish Konami would give Suikoden I + II on the PSP an English translation, but I'm not holding my breath.

You don't really need to play 1 & 2 before you can start on 3. While 3 is connected to the other two, there aren't really any spoilers or anything that would ruin your enjoyment from the the other two. However, 1 must be played before 2, there are so many things that relate to each other it's like two sides of the same coin.

Well, me not starting III yet had more to do with me not being in the right mindset to play it. This is the first time that I've heard of it being directly connected to the first two games in the series. Thanks for the assurances, though. As for Suikoden I and II, meh, I suppose I'll wait for that PS1 downloading service for the PSP to take effect.

Huh? **Suikoden 3 spoilers alert** Did you forgot about the game's biggest plot twist? About Luc being the bad guy? It isn't a plot twist if you didn't play the first two games, and you won't fully understand his motivations. And not to mention there are like 20-30 characters in suikoden 3 that were also in the first two games, and some of them are really important like Sasarai or Lucia. For example, you won't understand how much Lucia have been changed, how she have grown up and become more mature, if you didn't see her in Suikoden 2. You can also see how the things that don't get settled in the end of Suikoden 2, like what about Harmonia and the Karaya Clan, are the base for the plot in Suikoden 3. ** End of Suikoden 3 spoilers** So if you really want to enjoy and understand Suikoden 3, you must play Suikoden 1 and 2.

Maybe I should play Suikoden 1 and 2 again because I don't remember Lucia being in Suikoden 2 at all. And I forgot that Luc was in 1 &2 until near the end (and I saw his name on the tablet). But playing 1 & 2 are not prerequisites for playing 3. I understood pretty much what was going. Suikoden 3 is good enough that it can stand by itself. However 1 & 2 are great games and not playing them is really missing out.
