I'm just gonna tell you to go fuck yourself. Consider yourself warned: DO NOT lash out at other users like this, regardless of what offenses they might have committed in your presence.

Felixm, my whole problem with your argument is that you are holding people to a universal standard that simply won't apply to everyone. Yes, there are disabled people and young children who can master the most difficult of games, but there are also disabled people (and fully abled people, let's be fair!) along with children who will never be able to do that. There are people in this very thread that have admitted that they had to use the white tanooki suit in Super Mario 3D Land because they wanted to move on with the game. And you know what? That's fine! They have nothing to prove. They can master the game later.
You're right, not every game has to cater to everyone! There is a place for hard games, but is Mario really the game series to get upset about that? True, I was able to play the original SMB well enough when I was younger (it's not really the right series for this argument admittedly), but times change. That's one of the things I've always appreciated about the Mario series: each subsequent game is made to be more accessible and accommodating, while still maintaining the same level of fun as the original games. The white tanooki suit is simply an evolution of the warp zones and whistles, mechanics nobody complains about in the original games.
Ultimately I have to ask: why shouldn't games be made more accessible to match the abilities of the many rather than the few where possible? I've never seen this question adequately answered by people that hold your opinion, felixm. It's almost like people feel threatened when games are made accessible, as if the well has run dry on challenging games, as if their favorite games and very existence is threatened by those of inferior skill. Given how story driven games are these days, does it diminish your enjoyment knowing that someone was able to see the ending by beating the game on easy mode? Does knowing that someone out there beat Super Mario 3D Land with the white tanooki suit really make you that mad? You want extra challenge? You don't have to pick it up!
Given recent events, I'm not comfortable supporting any viewpoint that is built around excluding others simply because we don't feel they can appreciate videogames as well as we do, or they are not adequately skilled to do so. Not every game needs to be easy or accommodating, but ones worth shouldn't be tied how well they can play games either, nor should be denied the right to play it and enjoy it on their terms. Just because we got stuck on older games or had to suffer for our victories doesn't mean everyone else must too.

1. If you're going to use the word "literally" without sounding like a tweenage Justin Bieber fangirl, the only definition you're allowed to give for the noun "video game" is "an electronic game in which players control images on a television or computer screen." 2. If that's figuratively your definition of a video game, it would only have any chance of being true if the ONLY games you ever play are JRPGs. Clearly you understood what I meant and it got my point across so that's kind of a silly criticism, especially if you're going to use neologisms like "tweenage" and "fangirl" in the same sentence. It's kind of retarded to draw the "what are we teaching our children!?" line at Nintendo games having an auto-win mode. Kids probably shouldn't be getting life lessons from video game mechanics in the first place. edit: This is the Sonic Boom thread, how did I get here

They did simplify MTG. To make it accessible. Chess and Klondike have always been accessible. It's not difficulty, it's accessibility.

If you don't access it in the same way I access it you just aren't living right.

I do find improper usage of "literally" to be somewhat annoying, but in this case, Ike was using it for literary effect. That's quite different from simply being ignorant about the correct definition of a word.

If you don't access it in the same way I access it you just aren't living right. And that's an argument that just bugs the hell outta me. Misses the point of gaming really. I still refuse to allow my brother to claim he beat Mega Man X. Hadoukening Sigma was just childish. And I'm still mad I didn't know you could do that on the PSP version.

If you don't access it in the same way I access it you just aren't living right. Yeah. That sort of attitude is what really kills the sense of community in most nerdy things. "Someone doing something differently from the way I do it takes away from my enjoyment of that thing!" I mean...what the fuck? This is an actual thought that a grown adult has?

Oh. I've never tried it although I did beat him with no armor (except the legs) and no heart tanks so if you haven't done that I'm afraid you're enjoying the game on a mindless and childish level and I will have to revoke your fun card.

Also, this really bugs me because for all the stickler-to-detail, this is like the X number of threads now that felixm has derailed because he just had to act the resident angry pedant. I don't know about you, but when I have a conversation with someone it's not part of a 'natural flow' for a random guy to butt in and go ape on me for nonsensical reasons. Sorry, I don't really have much to contribute to this thread; I just have to express that I'm very annoyed by people like felixm. Considering he's been banned twice he really should play nice! So, um, Sonic Boom. It looks interesting, but I haven't really been paying that or Sonic much attention. I will say that I really enjoyed the Mario toon as a kid, regardless of its storytelling qualities.

Wait, felixm is so bad at Mario that he's seen the white suit in multiple games?
Anyway I am super glad that Eggman, Orbot, and Cubot are still here. They will probably make up for how annoying that character -- who totally isn't marine from sonic rush adventure (who totally wasn't mostly characterized as so annoying even the other characters in that game found her grating) -- was just from her few moments in the trailer.
