This game was pretty impressive to me when I was a kid, and the atmosphere is still pretty good. Shadowrun was also one oif the first games which really made me feel like I could do ANYTHING. It felt like I was really in that city. And I could talk to people. And enter buildings and random offices. And go to night clubs. And ride the subway. The game gave me the illusion that the city was gonna be ENORMOUS. Which it wasn't really. Still, I loved this game. Though the hacking part was annoying as hell. And yeah, I found the game to be a bit on the difficult side.

It's an average game. It's mostly an RPG where you're grinding to get enough nuyen so you can afford stuff so you can get through the plot. You get shot at a lot to the point where it just gets annoying. You look for items and keywords while you become a spell casting ubertank. I got so far to a major boss, died, and didn't bother completing it.
I did enjoy Shadowrun Returns and Dragonfall a lot. These games are a bit more true to the tabletop experience and do an excellent job at immersion into the Shadowrun universe.

Well, it's been getting a bit repetitive in the last 5 hours or so, but the first 10 hours for sure I was absolutely eating it up. Then I got stuck for a bit and was running around aimlessly. I finally cheated by looking at a FAQ and turns out I didn't pick up the Scalpel in the first room. D'OH! I went back and sure enough, there was a tiny ass scalpel on one of the tables. God damn, lol. I also didn't see the broken gate where I get the water and dog collar. That really impeded my progress. But I'm back on track now. Control is less cumbersome now as I've just grown more used to it. Combat isn't the greatest. But atmosphere and environments are off the charts. I can't think of another game like this on SNES. For some reason, probably because of the orcs, bleak atmosphere/visuals and protagonists, this game reminds me a lot of another personal SNES favorite of mine: Blackthorne, even though they are two completely different games.

POSSIBLE TINY SPOILERS
I am nearing the end. 20 hours and 40 minutes in, I'm about to face off with Drake at the Volcano. Gawd damn I am enjoying this game. I mean sure it could do a few things better but I really can't think of another game like this on the SNES. It's kind of in a class all its own. I love the cyberpunk world which combines vampires, orcs, mages and even dragons. It's like a clusterfuck of crazy ideas thrown into one melting pot.
I admit, I exploited the Vladimir 5,000 nuyen bug a few times. Had to to upgrade from the Uzi to the Assault Rifle. Oh, and I love the dark humor of being able to gun down defenseless scientists, haha. It reminds me even more of Blackthorne (with the chained prisoner thing). It's hilarious how as you approach the scientists, they actually scurry back. You can pin them in a corner until they can't move anymore... and then blast their head off (not literally, but yeah). I can't believe I waited this long to finally play Shadowrun... goes to show you how many truly special games there were on the SNES! I been playing for the last 8.5 years, and finally Shadowrun made it to the top of my queue. So many great games left to play!

Before you finish off Drake go to, uh, one of the final office buildings you hit before flying over. I think it's the one where you can get Akimi's phone number to hire her. One of the computers contains Drake's personal phone number. Calling him angers him greatly. Amazing game, completely blew me away when I was young.

Haha yes, I recall calling Drake and he didn't take too kindly to it, heh. Part of me wishes I could have experienced this as a 10 year old, but for some reason (probably because I was lame) I just wasn't into those sort of "slower moving" games back then. So on the other hand, experiencing it as an adult gave me a new sense of appreciation. I just love the atmosphere and world of Shadowrun. It felt bigger than what it really was, and that's because they used every small thing in it to make it feel like its own complete far-off-in-the-future world.

For me, the best moment was when I realized that... ...Drake was actually a DRAGON and not just a name.

Cool moment indeed. Also, if you try to shoot Drake after he bites the dust, the game tells you "not to harm those who can't harm you." LOL. Somehow, it fits the zany world of Shadowrun.
