Here's the split screen mode in action, though the most impressive thing about it is the lack of slowdown:

Are we going to put this in the tracing article? Okay, maybe not... but still, it's the first thing that came to my mind!

I wonder if there's a real specific painting or cover they're all from. The stylized pointing/cocked head is in so much manga/anime artwork though.

Except in the Psycho Chaser cover the cyborg doesn't seem to be pointing at anything.

Sting made three other shmups: Override for the Pc Engine. Last Battalion for the X68000 and Flying Hero for the Super Famicom.
Last Battalion and Override is said to be two different versions of the same game. I haven't played Last Battalion but from watching videos it seems to me to be more 16-bit in style than Override (which is quite similar to Compiles 8-bit shmups, only less hectic and more focused), with fewer but larger enemies etc.
Flying Hero is a surprisingly fast shmup for being on the Super Famicom.
One thing all Sting shmups have in common is large characters. They feel a little bit too large, but somehow it doesn't impact the gameplay that much.

I like Override quite a bit, even with a really powerful charge attack you get infinite use of it can be a fun challenge in the later levels, and I like the large, colorful sprites. It sort of makes up for a lack of animation. I was always surprised Flying Hero didn't come out in the US. Like of all the "colorful weird Japanese stuff" SNES games by 90s US standards, we got Kendo Rage?

I'm really digging these articles on PC Engine games lately. Seems that there are many good ones I missed during the times I was a lot into 8 and 16 bit emulation. This one looks great right from the cover.
