How can I get Higan to run these two games? I have the cx4.rom file, but don't know what to do with it or how to get Higan to recognize it. Help please?

After messing around a little, I got both games to load by copying the cx4.rom file into their respective folders. When I try to run the games though, I see a message in-emulator that says After this, the Capcom registration/logo screens appear. In Mega Man X3, I'm then able to play the game like normal, which is cool. In X2 however, the game just doesn't load up anything at that point, so I don't know how to get X2 to work... or how to keep either game from having that error message pop up

Okay, this is interesting. I just cleaned my X2 and X3 cartridges a bunch, to make sure they're clean, and X2 in particular had a ton of dirt. I guess I was a little sloppy with my first cleaning, so I used a bunch more Brasso-coated Q-tips to clean it, and now when I try to run the ROM from the cartridge, it no longer has the error message for either game. X2 still doesn't work, as nothing happens after the Capcom logo, but for all intents and purposes X3 runs perfectly. I guess I need to keep on cleaning and cleaning them; I'm worried I'll run out of Q-tips though D:

Well... that sucks. I'm glad I can at least play X3 since it's one of my absolute favorite games, but not being able to play X2 is a downer. I've been trying and trying, but just can't get it to work. I also found that Super Mario RPG doesn't work with the Retrode 2 either :/ This got me wondering... do you by any chance have any experience with, or know if it's possible, to extract the ROM file from a Wii Virtual Console game, and then run that ROM in an emulator? I'm considering buying Mega Man X2 and Super Mario RPG on the Wii Shop, and attempting to extract their ROMs to use on my computer.

You can't because virtual console games are not mere dumps of the original games and can't be played on a regular SNES emu.
You would already be breaking the rules/law by "dumping it" in your computer anyways, so why not just download a ROM/Wad file?

All SA-1 games don't work either (Super Mario RPG, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dreamland 3). The SA-1 chip provides copy protection.
As for the VC question; I believe someone hacked Donkey Kong Country, but that's all I heard at the time. I haven't searched for any information since.

I guess I should do some research then

I think X2's title screen logo uses the CX4 chip, whereas X3's does not. Maybe it still has problems actually performing the chip's actions? Did you face off wireframe Sigma in X3 without any problems?

No, I don't think that's the case; I tried enough of X3 to where I saw the "You got a new weapon!" screen, and there was a wireframe animation there with no issue. I think it's something to do with an explanation that zerker linked to earlier in this thread. :/
