There is absolutely no way this will be any good. We're all going to buy it, though. Without a doubt. Square should have left it up to a Kickstarter to set even more records. I keep trying to think of what will be omitted from the game. There is so much side stuff that would need to be reprogrammed. And the game has some really goofy shit that I don't think will translate to the new design or resonate with the newer/younger audience. It'll still be released before FF 15.

A bit late, but I never thought they would remake FF7 in the near future. Wasn't Square Enix going to wait and see how FFXV would perform, and then choose what to do afterwards? I think I read that somewhere... Personally, I think it's way too early for a remake. I don't know, 18 years doesn't sound so much to me. Then again, the video game industry is still fairly young.
I bet it's going to be a long time in development. Maybe we'll see it in 2017, for the 20th anniversary. Oh, but FFXV may be delayed. So 2018? No, wait, mid-development, SE will decide to switch systems. The PS5 will be better suited for it.

Now the true horror sets in. We're going to have seriously call her "Aerith" after this comes out.

His voice in the original Kingdom Hearts was pretty good. Exactly the kind of mopey, emo, angst-ridden shithead I always pictured him as.

Wasn't the whole "emo" thing only added in Advent Children and the spinoff media? IIRC he started off the game as a cold-blooded hardass professional, moved up to somewhat chummier once the plot moved out of Midgar, and turned into a PTSD-riddled wreck after Stuff Happened (TM).

The PTSD, hallucination, zenogais stuff was very much emo, right from the get go.

I don't know, 18 years doesn't sound so much to me. Then again, the video game industry is still fairly young. 20 years is pretty damn old for video games, the more technology advanced something is the quicker it ages, so movies, which were invented in the late 1800's, take about 30 years before they start to feel truly retro, video games are certainly retro by the time they're 20, even arguably pretty retro by the time they hit 10 (for example, compare SNES games to Gamecube games) and the internet of 20 years ago is as archaic as a Goddamned kinetoscope from the turn of the century compared to the net of today.

Nomura already said in an interview that it's not gonna just be a graphical upgrade, but that they also work on the story. So there's probably no chance in hell this isn't getting Compilation-ified. But hey, if you like the original so much, that one's coming to the PS4 soon too, so just play that - says Nomura.

The PTSD, hallucination, zenogais stuff was very much emo, right from the get go. Wouldn't that make him a trailblazing hipster? Emo wasn't really around in 1997. (Yes, I am aware of 1990s Emocore, but that had little to do with the Aidens of the world.)

There's no way they aren't going to mess with the combat, so much that by the end it's going to feel like another God of War clone. And Cloud's sword turns into a zipper mid-combat. And I'm pretty sure that the Honeybee Inn and the cross dressing are going to be first things they cut out.

I hope they change A LOT. I never understood people who want their remakes to be the exact same thing they've already played a hundred times. There's the original for that.
But yes, the combat should stay somewhat faithful to the source, but they could make it more like FFX or FFXIII in terms of speed and strategy and stuff. Being able to swap characters mid-battle was the best thing ever.
