I'm not sure how a Genesis boss would work, isn't he meant to be hiding underground until Dirge of Cerberus? (I own but have never played it...and I'm still half way through Crisis Core...which I just restarted a few days ago, wow, talk about timing, lol)
Mind you, if they just want him to show up as a post game for fun super hard boss (ala Lenneth in Tri Ace games)....why not? If it's as an optional for fun boss, he doesn't need a reason besides "He looks cool, go kick his ass"

There is absolutely no way this will be any good. We're all going to buy it, though. I'm going to buy it day 1. And then I'm gonna think the graphics are really pretty. And then I'm gonna realize I still don't like FF7. So, yeah. This is a very strange situation. I can't wait.

Funny how fast you all went from a complacent attitude towards FF fans to being embarassed realizing you're reacting like them.

fyi I'm gonna share my personal history with FF real quick.
First one I played was X, but I was so young at the time I had no idea what I was doing and got stuck, then in 2004 I found a copy of FF7 and gave it a shot, I made it pretty far but still got stuck and never fully understood what I was doing.
And that's about it with my experience with the series, however there's something about the series that fascinates me and I've always considered 6, 7, 8, 9 and X to be "bucket list" games.
7 fascinates me in particular but it hasn't aged too well, so I'm excited by the prospect of finally playing it, I just hope that it's still actually turn based.

I don't know, I still like to mock 7. Been doing it since it was brand new. 4 and 6 were always where it was at with me. I can't ever seem to work up the dedication to put myself through 5, though. Maybe if the PS1 didn't have such a horrible translation, and if I was willing to deal with the DS Lite's tiny screen for the GBA version (same reason I've never been able to get through the Golden Sun games).
People brought up the "Bring Back Aeris" thing. Sure, go ahead. But she needs to be a shambling zombie and still have the Masamune sticking through her body.

You can only resurrect Aeris via a number of sidequests, each culminating with you sacrificing one other of your party members until no one is left. And then you notice that Aeris is somehow different, came back "wrong". She's gonna dye her hair pink and be all like "call me Lightning now, that's my spirit animal".

I don't know, I still like to mock 7. Been doing it since it was brand new. Oh, it's goofy, but that's kinda what I like about it. One weird detail I like about it is the setting seems to be the traditional Final Fantasy type world, but with a bunch of sci fi stuff smack dab in the middle, the juxtaposition of that is pretty clever for 1997. And I think that's the secret of the series' success, is it does present worlds that are pretty unique among RPGs, the same is true of X's tropical island meets the Backstreet Boys setting.

I actually thought the first few hours in FF7 was kinda exciting. The whole Midgar section was a nice start. Strangely enough, the game completely lost me when it opened up more. It's usually the other way round for me with these type of games. I may play through Midgar in this remake and then be done with it.
It's one of those rare instances where I wish I could just buy that part of the game for ten bucks and then have the rest as DLC (and never ever buy them).

If they really feel they need to do this I have simple requests- 1.No reference to Crisis, Dirge or Advent crap. 2. No more crappy metal/dubstep remixes of One Wing Angel 3. The ability to bump off Cait Sith.
I'm sure though instead we'll have Cloud and Aeris talking about Dumbapples with Gackt to the hardcore dubstep/metal mash up of One Wing Angel. Hurrah :'-)

I really like the setting and all, but the level of melodrama annoyed me even back in the day. And I played the PC version with the supposedly much better translation.
The minigames were super cool back then, but I remember that the last time I actually played the game (this time on PSX), they were rather horribly implemented. So for it to live up to the memories it'd need to fix a lot of things, and that's where the problems start. The nostalgia cloud will be gone if it's presented in modern form (much like the new Sailor Moon, which I can't watch, although the original is probably just as stupid, but y'know, I've got childhood memories for that one), but if they just update it to play like recent FF games, people will bitch. If they keep the mechanics samey, people will bitch (as they should - these super long animations are grating after the first time).
And of course, please keep Aerith dead. The emotional impact of the whole journey would be severely lessened if you could just resurrect her. The idea that you go to great lengths to revive her is a good one, but please make it a bittersweet ending. Isn't she like one of these lifestream-people (I have no idea what they were called, let alone in the US version)? Have her say something like "I must go... to my people...", and hit on Cloud ("I will see you... there... and we will finally be... one"), but you know, don't just bring her back. Hell, have Sepiroth use her as a pawn for all I care. After 18 years of germinating, the drama level should be over the top anyway. (Remember how chatty the Seiken Densetsu remake got?)
Of course, if they wanted the game to be enjoyable for me... ah, forget it. Seriously, I'm not the demography for this one. The only FF I played and enjoyed in recent years was 5. But still, I hope they at least show some care and don't do anything stupidly zazz.
Hell, a friend of mine who's a huge fan of VII (and also knows shit all about games, I might add) said that Advent Children was a good movie. These people are insane, so who knows what they want in the game.

Wait was Supernova different outside of the U.S.? Yup and it acts different too. It's just a big bunch of damage as opposed to a percentage of I think your max HP and status effects. If someone wants to be a pal however and tell me why some of the Max HP aren't numbers, I'd be happy.

If someone wants to be a pal however and tell me why some of the Max HP aren't numbers, I'd be happy. Pretty sure it's just status effects, they take the place of the Max-HP counter, no? And I presume that's only supernova of the original release? Like, if it's changed for the west, it's probalby also changed for the International Version re-release, which would be what a remake is based on. Though drastically shortened, whe aren't in early "look what we can do" 3D times anymore, so spell animations like Supernova or Summoning Eden in FF8, which are long enough for you to finish FF1 in the meantime all over, are a thing of the yesteryears.

Pssssh nobody cares about Aeris. The real issue is the drag scene. The world needs to see Cloud cross-dress in glorious HD! You'd better not cut it SE!
