In all seriousness, though... even though this is going to completely ruin the whole point of her fate and everything, if they're going to do this, there must be a sidequest where you can revive Aeris and bring her back into the party. But make it really, really, really hard. It has to be a reward that you can't simply walk up and take. If you want to bring her back, you've got to earn it. Even if it may turn off and aggravate many gamers. They need to make it super hard and then at the last second just a quick conversation. Even saying "You can't bring back the dead. What's done is done sorry Cloud." And then maybe give Red XIII her Level 4 Limit Break.

I almost asked "why?"
Edit: for some reason this is all I can think of right now.

Despite me being the one who started this thread, I thought this was gonna turn out to be fake. I am speechless now.
Did not even like FF7 but I may give it another try now that the graphics at least aren't gonna be the ugliest I've ever seen.

I like how the trailer was really ambiguous about whether it was a remake or a sequel, only to finally literally flash the word "REMAKE" to confirm it.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little excited for it, but I'm less excited than I am curious. I wonder what their logic is, because the fact that this is Actually Happening could mean a few things. I no-shit was thinking about this exact thing yesterday, imagining a scenario where Square and Sony are both bad enough financial projections right now that Sony goes to Square, saying "Save our system," and Square decides to finally pull the trigger on the biggest and most obviously guaranteed success they have under their belt. I can't imagine this is Square seeing the power of the PS4 and saying to themselves "Finally, a system worthy of the power and respect that Final Fantasy VII commands" and decided to remake it out of some respect for the art, or something. Kind of like how Nintendo sat on EarthBound for... what, 19 years? Along similar lines, I expect we'll see something Chrono-related in the near future. If not at E3 (unlikely that it will be) then probably within the year. I'm basing this on essentially nothing so I am probably wrong.
That said, I really, really hope that not even a tiny fraction of the FF7 side-series content is present in the game, but I know that's asking too much with Nomura at the helm, so the best I can hope for is that it's minimal. I think this is one case where I would like to see the game's story play out exactly the way it does the first time, but with a better translation, $ick grafix and some tweaks to the battle system to make it less of a slog. Maybe they could jazz up the minigames in the Golden Saucer and make chocobo breeding less tedious, so long as the story is more or less the same. And keep the Honeybee Inn in its entirety because holy shit picture that whole section in HD for a second.

I wonder what they're gonna do with the battle system. I don't expect it to be the same. Maybe they're going for a FFX style system? That is, IMO, the best of the more "classic" turn based ones. If they go Kingdom Hearts/FFXV on us however, I will be pretty disappointed.

Does anyone remember how the FFX-2 companion book stated that the lisping little Gullwing named Shinra sired a line of descendants who left Spira in spaceships, colonized The Planet, and started an energy company? I hope that makes it into the remake.

Maybe he and Gackt can be super secret endbosses that are completely optional I hope.

I still say make it mega hard. Really super rage-inducing hard. Exclusive Bonus DLC with the the super limited quantity 300$ LE. BAM! That said, I really, really hope that not even a tiny fraction of the FF7 side-series content is present in the game, but I know that's asking too much with Nomura at the helm, so the best I can hope for is that it's minimal. At best I'm expecting Genesis to be crammed in as a stupidly hard optional boss. I don't want think about how much worse it could get. Not sure what you mean by slog but visually FF7 had the fastest action in the battle system. Everything up until 12 was slow as molasses and even then 12 just threw absurd amounts of HP on everything and 13 put that stupid chain counter gauge.

FF10 always felt pretty quick, but I also abused speed-up stat boosts a lot.

Hmm. Why not make a resurrected Aeris the reward for defeating Ruby and Emerald Weapon? I see her descending from the sky, trumpets pealing, confetti falling, lights flashing, a'la South Park's Guitar Hero ep:
"CLOUD! YOU JUST SPENT TWENTY HOURS RUNNING A CHOCOBO AROUND A TRACK AND GRINDING KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND! YOU...ARE...."

Final Fantasy on the whole moves pretty quick. Until about 11. If battles in any of them take more than a few rounds, you're underlevelled. Bosses are a bit longer, but not much. And most areas don't usually take too long. 7's dumbest thing is that it popularized overly long animations. I've only ever used Knights of the Round once in my life. Because my god. And Working Designs may be criticized for stupid choices when it came to localization. But they'll always be second when you consider US's Supernova animation. I had a file once that once Sephy flew up, and started that attack I could get up and get a pop and make a sandwich, because I knew that animation was going to take forever. And then Cloud would counter anyway to win the battle. Which in retrospect was kind of cool to a 16 year old Klaid. It's like "That all you got?" WHAM! I guess my point is that 7 is the sloggiest game after 3 in the series. But as a series I've always found them pretty brisk compared to most JRPGs.
My other point as that this remake better have a 3 hour animation for Supernova.

I was really, really hoping it'd end up being a remake of VIII. Alas. Never really cared for VII so I'm not really interested in this, but I'm happy for SE to finally stop dragging their heels and now everyone can shut the hell up for everyone who's been asking for this. I hope it turns out well for them.

There is absolutely no way this will be any good. We're all going to buy it, though.
